Re: Don't use slang.

So, who wants to share their opinions on an alternative? For instance, I've at times deliberately taken bits of slang out of our world, and given them a bit of an FR-ring to them.

For instance, "No shit, Sherlock" becomes "No shit, Elminster".

Not only does it leave you able to use your most favourite catchphrases when verbally burning another character, but it also gives more RP variety in the fact that you actually try and have your character's talking like a real denizen of Fearûn would.

Sounds ok, but I believe that I rather just simply create a more original phrase(s) rather than mimic our wonderful world of words and phrases. Never really payed any attention to the FR books that I've read to see how they spoke, though mostly are drow books.

Most people won't know who the heck Elminster is, although you've got your head in the right place. Making up your own twists of modern phrases is fine I'm sure. Look at how prevalent Rotheshit has become in casual slandering!

But yea, I'd stick away from everything non-WTC guidebook. I have a feeling that wcsherry would not hesitate from dropping a greater behemoth umberhulk on top of someone after telling their buddy that they just "tore up the enemy like Drizzt on a dragon!"

"I whipped them faster than the Simbul against Thayan's" I wonder if i could get away with that.

I hate all the heroes of Faerun.

Mostly because they like, suck.

Linkage.

As a rule, I stand opposed to any and all suggestions that include Elminster in any way other than insulting, cursing, or wishing his death.

Referencing The bigwig "heroes" (Guh :( ) of faerun doesn't sound appealing to me at all. I'd rather listen to normal slang. But since thats really immersion breaking, Here some suggestions.

Get into the habbit of specific vocal emotes indicating Surprise, Frustration, or annoyance for your particular PC.

Use Deities or their symbolism within curses or Slang. Even afterwards offering a small whoops toward the heavens. Or hey, maybe just thank the deities of good and evil depending on which managed to screw up your day today.

Look at everything that would suck about your life, if you actually had to deal with living physically within the city- I'm sure their countless things that can inspire some creative slang depending on your part of the city.

Personally I wouldn't mind seeing the vocabulary of slang change a bit more between upper and lower. Or things that would generally carry through the disgust each region has with the other.

I don't know, we should all be relatively creative people, give it a whirl! See what You come up with. Just remember- the more you use it, and the better it is, the better chance it'll stick!

Nickless I hate all the heroes of Faerun.

Mostly because they like, suck.

Yup.
