Specific Key

I made a thread about this a while back and it seemed to be that doors were 'specific keyed' to prevent people from going into areas that were not yet complete or areas that would need a DM to overlook the player.  So if I find a door that is specific keyed and I want to wander in, all I would have to do is find a DM?  Is it appropriate to ask on the DM channel

"// Can I get a DM for a specific keyed door?"

Also if any of the doors are specific keyed but actually -do- go somewhere that doesn't need a DM (For whatever IC reason being masked with an OOC action) could I make the suggestion to at least just give them a ridiculously high DC instead of a specific key so I feel like they are actually unlockable just not by my PC?  Also, for areas that are not build, a message like "this door is barred from the other side" will let anyone know not to waste their time or anyone else's trying to get a DM to open it.

I mean, assuming a Level 10 elven rogue(ya right) could get
13(from ranks) + 6(if they had a dex of 22, again ya right), +3(skill focus) + 2(cat's grace w/ a good roll) +1(level 6+ bard at your back) = 25, which gives you a check of 45.  Then assuming you want to use thieves tools that are ridiculously expensive to possibly have the door do an OOC re-lock behing you, this check can get up to 55(if there are +10 tools on the server, not sure on this one) and then finally any amount of enchanted items that add to open lock skill, again since I'm somewhat new I will assume a low magic server will give you a max of +10 from items(although this is doubtful)

All this combined, would give you a DC check of 65.  I don't think it's unreasonable, since I don't see anyone making a rogue build all the way to level 10 for the sole purpose of wanting to spend a large sume of gold on thieves tools to open one of these doors, to change some of these doors to DC:60

Just as a side note, for people that play rogue type PCs I think, and hopefully others will agree, it's really frustrating when about 80-90% of the locked doors you try to unlock are 'specific keyed':???:

If a door is specific keyed, you otherwise need a key or an area probably hasn't been built yet, or is undergoing such severe restriction that we don't want people meandering in. So, in short, if you find one of these doors, you otherwise need a key or you're out of luck. Sorry!

One would have thought rogues were supposed to acces places other classes coudln't. I guess i'm wrong.

It seems like we've been over this before.

99% of the doors out there that are locked with a specific key are because there's nothing built beyond it. Our server is already vast with hundreds and hundreds of areas, it would be an awful idea to fill in every little house and room.

For everything else, there's typically a reason. Maybe we don't want people progressing past without a DM. Maybe we just want people to have to find the key for some reason. Etc.

If you don't think open lock is useful, then don't take it. But there are tons, and tons, and TONS of doors that can be opened just with that skill + tons and tons of non-bashable chests on quests that can only be opened this way.

What about making the ones that are specifc keyed because you need a DM to get there and those that are specific keyed because there is not an area beyond the door as "specifc key" and "barred from the other side" respectively, so that way I(and others) know whether to get on the DM channel or not, or if no DM is available to remember the door and come back later.

Because people might metagame one of the millions upon millions of generic locked/barred doors as one marked for "DM supervision to enter" and mysteriously decide to go there and ask for help exploring it.

Besides this leaves them with freedom for creativity with regards to placing "new" things that were technically supposed to always be there.
