Dual-wield weapons other than Exotics?

Currently, pretty much anyone wanting to dualwield as a main tactic (who's not playing a Small PC) takes Exotic Weapons so they can use a doubleaxe or diremace, as these are way, way more effective than paired weapons, and good doubleswords are impossible (pretty much) to find.

For this feat you get:
-1d8 offhand and main weapons, only requiring 1 Weapon Focus to get +1 on each hand. Unlike say, Battleaxe/Handaxe.
-Weapon-related spells add to both ends at once. Casters rarely like taking half their buffs for one guy. Really, getting both sides of the weapon spelled up with one cast is the biggest advantage as you lose a lot of the benefit of an extra attack when it doesn't come with spell bonuses. .

I know that in one of the campaigns (I think, Hordes of the Underdark) there are two kukris that give a special bonus when dualwielded together. It would be great to see this here with some "balanced pairs" of weapons, to encourage dualwield builds that don't have to rely on Exotic Weps.

Anyone got any other thoughts on dualwield?

I had an Assassin with such a setup. Can't recall off hand the stats but I know 100% they had to be used as a pair or would gimp you, but they were kurkis caleld "Obsidian" and "Ivory"

You forghet the dire mace, doble sword and dobule axe cannot be finessable. My ranger/rogue dualwields with shortswords so his high dex can make his AB rather than the STR.

So there is a point in fual-wielding non-dobule weapons. Although your point might still apply, i bet most people would rather dual-wield kurkis than shortswords.

Egon the Monkey

Yeah, you make a very good point when you're talking about rogues with Finesse who get most of their firepower off the sneaks anyway.

I'd still like to see something designed to make main weapon/smaller offhand fighters more in line with the exotic weps. The reason being, Exotic weapons are the rule rather than the exception here, so they don't seem that exotic. The fact they the weapons on EFU with the greatest bonuses are mostly Small weapons does help some. But, there are IMO too many +dmg handaxes/daggers and only one +dmg shortsword

Hopefully, it has nothing to do with mechanics.

When dual-wielding two weapons, you can quickslot to a shield when the going gets though and keep on going without losing your bonus ab from WF.

My favorite is dual-wielding handaxes.

Yes i use that too. When Isendel stops "sneak attacking" i know it's because the enemy targeted me, so i take out my shield and gain a nice +2 AC. If i had weapon focus on shortsword, but the shortsword where likle the two-bladed sword, i'd have to switch to another weapon on wich i have no AB. But it doesn't happen. So, it's still pretty convenient.

You can also select which weapon your character uses based on his characterization and not mechanical advantage.

There's plenty of nice combination you can do that can be both original and cool.

Whip + Another weapon comes to mind for sweet indiana jones-esque treasure hunters.

The Butcher with his cleavers and throwing axes.

And so on...

In fact, when we see a character that makes us go "This is really original and sweet, but gimped!", we may end up making him some sweet loot to counter-balance.

Seriously people. I gave my druid improved unarmed strike just because that's the way he is. Make cool characters that suck mechanically so everyone will be like me!

A shocking thought!

i once had this character who was badass as hell with two pimpin axes and although it was not mechanically optimal it still worked and i defeated some folks in pvp combat

The problem comes when your build is not optimal. Then again, a slinger is not supposed to strike with as much strenght as a crossbowman, so i guess being weak is part of the RP?

Bastard Swords are 4 bastards.

I remember when I duelwielded rapiers.

I was a sucky fighter but RPing being good at it was a blasty blast.

Yup, but since double weapons (AFIAK) are more common than paired weapons, I'm guessing mechanics does rather come into it.

Cool, hell yes. Original no. I ran that a few months ago on an alt account for a while. Sneak attack + disarm time ;). I also did a dual wield bastardsword fighter called Crazy Jenny Bastard before that :D
