Actually theres a design for the short sword that gives it a curved blade. Looking at your character equipped with it, it looks like a Wakizashi. So to add them the DM's would just have to add the word 'Wakizashi' to the description of a short sword with that curved blade.

Just make a ginsu knife,  they never need sharpened.

How about we get ability and skill bonuses too for following BUSHIDO?

In D&D I believe you're only able to finesse a Katana if you follow a specific swordstyle.

A katana is a curved sword made in Japan. It is used by samurai warriors.

God only knows why this even exists in NWN without the Samurai base class.

It's because JAPAN IS COOR.

In any PnP games, I try to make it so attack bonus is determined by adding and dividing the modifiers of strength and dexterity.

What?  ok.. I realize I am norman new guy here, but doesn't (most) EVERYONE get zapped from some where in Aber-Toril to the Ziggurat?  Kara-Tura is in Aber-Toril is it not?  Mulan... well I thought that was just a kids cartoon.  :p

I like the idea, gives a difference between bastard sword and katana.  Shame it cannot be scripted.

Quote from: The Crimson Magician;121667IMO, katanas should be a rarity, seeing as they are a from a Kara-Turan setting, and Mulan, if I can recall correctly.

Our setting has nothing to do with either of these places.

Mort

Yeah. They get warped here. Thankfully, the Kara-tur cultural items do not <_<

Can I kamehameha too?

As usual I have no idea about mechanics. I am mechanically-illiterate, both in gaming and real life. Also as usual, I have an opinion!

Lowering the damage: Sorry Mort, I know that idea is for balance issues, but it's kind of BS. Any sword worthy of being called a real katana should have 1d10, if not more.

The actual change: I am in favor of it. Feats are very undervalued. An average character on EfU:A gets only three or four of them, with fighters of course getting more, along with humans. Balance is an issue to be sure though, and I think that this could be slightly overpowered, if realistic. We would run the risk of DEX-maxed fighter/rogues running about with katana sneak-attacks of a ridiculous AB. Perhaps, even though it is supremely distasteful to think about, those using katanas with their DEX modifier instead of their STR modifier could receive a -1 on attack damage?
