Irene Ellet

"So, are you still playing Irene?"

No, I'm not. So the Red Guild can breathe a sigh of relief, my reign of terror is over.

It's time to pack it in. I genuinely hate retiring a good character before their time, but I don't have the time or interest to continue playing Irene Ellet, and I'll be taking a lengthy break from EFU until the itch strikes again, so you can consider her retired or a NPC or whatever suits your fancy. Irene was my first successful politician, and a rather long-lived PC at that. When I first made Irene, the political scene in Sanctuary was utterly dominated by Red Guild PCs, and they needed some opposition. Some of them appreciated it more than others, but all in all good times were had. She started, ironically enough, as a simple vehicle for me to make an EFU newspaper: The Writing on the Wall, a horrendously biased propaganda rag that pandered to the commoners of Sanctuary because they were the most plentiful readers.

Then I had to create the kind of persona that would go with the writer of such a thing, which resulted in her being ornery and smarmy and two (or three, or four) faced. Moonlighter plays another cunty halfling, no one is surprised. She was very anti-authoritarian, and I figured that if she'd ever become a Prefect it would be for Crane as she was helping with his election campaign. Well, certain things got in the way of that, and I eventually wound up working for Ma Murik, which sort of changed the course of where the PC was going.

Anyway, I don't have the attention span for a long writeup but I do have a bunch of great pictures to share of memorable interactions and the like.

[hide=Character Sheet]

[/hide]

[hide=Crane]

[/hide]

Irene had Crane's ear from the beginning, even if she wasn't exactly what he was hoping for in a fan and supporter. Though she was pretty, she was about two feet two short for him. Missed opportunities!

[hide=Azriah Chand is DEAD! Also, one of Irene's friends.]

RIP both Azriah Chand and Cornelius Calhoun (who'd pushed for Irene to join the Civil Service)[/hide]

Nicodem Skalarius was an amazingly played Spellguard Agent, and planted the seeds for Irene's paranoia and dissent regarding them. They had a common enemy (Aurelia Larskul) but Nicodem's ruthlessness was a frightening thing to behold. He had a big influence on my character from the beginning.

[hide=Early election stuff]

Irene gets hired into the Civil Service, making the Writing on the Wall Sanctuary's OFFICIAL Handbill. Probably a big mistake from a Red Guild Prefect in retrospect.

Putting the screws to Jasmine, who was a great friend and rival at times. I get kind of nostalgic looking at this one.
[/hide]

Irene took the rank of Courier in the Civil Service. Largely so I didn't have to do much more forum work than I was already doing, so I could tell people off when they were asking me for tenancy authorization forms.

[hide=Courier Days]

Your plot items delivered or your money back!
(I think this was Cmenden's first real DM quest?)

Crane wins the first election.

Well, shit.

Nobody mind the halfling lying in a puddle of her own vomit.
(They actually went off and did the DM quest without me. I had to catch up after Lado told me that it grew slightly more tolerable after the immediate exposure.)
[/hide]

Good times. Tanking every DM quest in my clerk's outfit with my courier helm was good fun. I wish I could have saved some of the DM emotes from Caster, BOM, and Cmenden commenting on it.

[hide=Date with a Goddess (Not Really)]

[/hide]

Just remember, flattery will get you everywhere, kids. Just remember to take EFUSS painting, and get some /e worship in.

[hide=The Meat!]

A great Christmas quest from D_I. I never did get my present, though. I honestly would have laughed at (and kept forever) a piece of coal. It was worth it entirely for the adventure, though.
[/hide]

Irene hated Mystryl. She felt that she was a fickle goddess who didn't really give a rat's ass about the mortals she was sworn to protect. All the much better when a Thayan Cleric of Mystryl is her chief rival! She also received her sorcerous magics from Mystryl, which she didn't really want or understand. (I deliberately only started taking Spellcraft at level 10 to signify that she'd gotten some understanding of the art's many nuances.)

[hide=Encounter with the Withering]

Irene studied quite a bit about the Withering when she was active, which made it pretty cool that we got to go on a quest involving all sorts of withered oozy stuff. A PC got some Wither Roots, and Irene took objetion to him having him, as he was a loud and proud Banite and would likely use them for evil. So she beat him up, and tried to take them, but he used them all on her in the course of the battle. Unfortunately for him, I could only fail on a one.
[/hide]

[hide=Raid on the Housing Vault]

[/hide]

When Irene would brag that she was the first one in and the last one out when the Formians attacked the Housing Vault, she wasn't bluffing. I got there a little early as the DM was still placing enemies and spawns popped up all around me and nearly killed me to death. So I just roleplayed it as a brave halfling cutting her way into the enemy ranks single-handedly.

[hide=A Date with a Director (But not really)]

[/hide]

Here she is, after the raid on the Housing Vault, getting selected as a Prefect by Ma Murik and given her 'holy mission': Be as loud as possible for the people.

... Being a champion of the NPCs was great fun at first, but it did grow somewhat tiring as time went on. Still, it was a great angle to work, and those few lines of conversation gave me months worth of RP ideas.

[hide=A Surface Adventure]

An unexpected expedition to the surface comes to this building on the surface.

A child leader who can read the adventurer's minds, and has a plea for his people to be brought into Sanctuary.

Unfortunately, they can't help him. And it all goes to hell.

[/hide]

[hide=Funding the 'Bloody Harlots']

A shame nothing came of their scheme to blow up Gould's dock. Irene wanted them to do so, so she could prove that it was unsafe for Upper Sanctuary to expand beyond the Shield.[/hide]

[hide=Adventures]

Don't roll a Scrapper without having 'Search' as a class skill.
[/hide]

[hide=Paparazzi]

This picture was just too good not to post. Irene blinding Ephraim (RwG) with her camera.
[/hide]

[hide=Facing down the entire Khaganate]

Well, someone had to see what they wanted, rather than just awkwardly standing there and waiting for something to happen, right?[/hide]

[hide=DROGGUS MUNT]

I should have just started running here.

Goddamnit.

[/hide]

And so begins the 'Moosehead Era.'

[hide=ANIME]

Just kidding, Caster. It wasn't THAT anime.

:3c
[/hide]

I didn't take as many screenshots when I had the moose helmet on.

[hide=Salvation from an Unexpected Source]

They gave Irene Billy Miggsley's journal.

This also subtly implies that Munt may have been responsible for Mad Marge, and possibly the whole Workmill Revolution. That'd be hilarious if true![/hide]

[hide=Munt's Workshop]

FOR USE IN CASE OF FOK UP

Pretty decent shot of everyone walking together out of the maze of animatrons that cast fireball and alchemist's fire barrels.
[/hide]

[hide=End of an Era (thank god)]

Ardath, Todric, and Josephine (at the time, Irene's bodyguard) get the damn thing off of her head.

Strangely enough, despite almost dying, nothing exploded!
[/hide]

Moonlighter

[hide=Well, sort of the end, anyway.]

Kinslayer really wanted it, so I gave it to him![/hide]

[hide=Irene Ellet, Traitor against Mankind (but not really)]

Tried for treason.

As much nonsense as I got away with on this character, I briefly thought I was in trouble.[/hide]

[hide=Captured by the Chosen]

[/hide]

[hide=Releasing an Ancient Evil]

"I got a real bad feelin' about this one, guys. We should jus' turn around an' go home now."
Irene, literally 30 times during the course of this quest.
[/hide]

[hide=A much needed prayer]

Just some fantastic cleric RP. Too good not to share!
[/hide]

[hide=A well-laid trap]

Good times.[/hide]

[hide=End of the Miggsley Family]
So given Irene's involvement with the Miggsleys, and her trying to do the right thing, and this being EFU, it obviously wouldn't end well.

Don't grow attached to NPCs, folks.

//They aren't hostile

[/hide]

[hide=Miggsley Memorial Scrapper Convention]

I won a 'Scroll of Wish.' Too bad that it wasn't any good.

Das a lotta gold.
[/hide]

[hide=Irene, Duergar Murderer]
[/hide]

[hide=Presented, without Context]

Probably the best plot event I ever got to do on EFU. Thanks, Elmo.[/hide]

[hide=Mouldercrest!!!]
[/hide]

My favorite alignment shift ever.

And now, the reason you're all here! LOOT PICS!

[hide=Loot Pics]

Thanks, Talir.

Thanks Caster for the best toy ever!

Moose flavored loot. I couldn't escape the moose. Is moose the plural of moose? Thanks again Caster!

First piece of loot I got, a gift for having an eye for detail from Cmenden.

Don't ask how I came across this.
[/hide]

And that's it.

I had some real rad interactions with a great many PCs over the six months (two months too long imo) that Irene Ellet was around. I could try to list and name them all off the top of my head, but I'd miss people and feel bad. You know who you are, I'm sure! And thanks to the DMs for being super cool and giving me stuff to do.

That's it for Ellet!

TheSpooky

A great character who I'm EXTREMELY surprised wasn't murdered before retirement! Hope you get a good recharge while you take a break, I'll look forward to anything you come up with next.

Kinslayer988

Fantastic fantastic fantastic. She filled an era with fun and I only wish I got to see more of her paintings which got me itching to play a painter.

Fun, witty, and I am more than happy with your PC.

Good stuff Moonlighter! Come back when you are ready to knock more socks off.

I saw and interacted with Irene with so many of my different Characters... For the better and the worse. More than anything I shall miss my favorite newspaper :(

Apocryphal Misconceptions

Does this mean that Spellguard Agent Pierre Du'Ponte wins??

Starmonger

Irene was amazing, even if ariana hated her guts, (as you said, that was a horrible mistake on her part, funding that paper..  lol)

End to a good character.

Vlaid

Easily one of my favorite characters of EFUR so far.

Knight Of Pentacles

She did cool things.  Wish she went out with a bang but oh well. :C

Ryan

I'm sorry I took my (still ongoing, unfortunately :( ) hiatus while this character was in full swing.

Quote from: ShadowCharlatan;435275Rather sad to my mind that Irene was retired a day before the new election season began. <_>

A fine PC, though. Kudos.

S'alright. I considered keeping playing for the new election season, but why hog up the spotlight when there's PCs around that are being played by motivated players, y'know?

Thanks for all the nice words, errybody. o7

Kinslayer988

Almost forgot! How could I have?
