With a mixture of RL and just waning energy for the concept (A hermit PCs on EFU take a lot out of me) I'm hoping to make a more social PC again soon. THAT SAID-

Every once in a while I manage to find a PC who really sticks in my teeth and lets me do cool things. I had avoided making obituaries for PCs the last many PCs because I just felt it wasn't worthwhile.

RAHUM though is the combobreaker. I'm not sure if he's the exception or the rule but I consider him my first really successful character of EFU:R. Not in terms of accomplishments but the extent to which I was able to do a lot of fun characterization, the story I created around him and most importantly how awesome IC interactions shaped the PC further and further.

The goal had been to make a PC who I could feel was synonymous with the Ascetic PRC. A mixture of high philosophy and street justice, walking the earth and challenging man and nature and gods alike to beat him. I greatly enjoyed monitoring his growth from level 3 deaths on the crossroads to infinite demise amongst the Seers Quest to ultimately being able to solo the likes of Traensyr and the Colossal Experimental Animatron as well as battling some of the hardest NPCs that EFU can throw around along the Dread Plains and Traensyr. It's very rare for me to have such a kickass and durable PC in EFU.

Beyond such things though I was actually able to have a number of PCs who I had stellar conversations with and even a small band of "Apprentice" type PCs ranging from rogues to fighters and everything in between.

[hide=The lengthy history of the character, his characterization, his time amongst Dunwarren, and a small Endlude] Born amongst a desert village he was abandoned at a shrine to Asuran. With few visitors and less care for the well being of a Half-Orc the child was raised as little more than a slave for purposes of labor and menial temple duties. As he aged he was taught his entire existence an abomination in the eyes of Hoar. As evil beget evil he was punished rigorously, beaten, abused, and further maligned if he failed in any capacity of his duties. Through his adolecense as he grew larger and larger he was put through more intensive workings on behalf of the priests of Hoar and taught scripture solely through sermons and vocalization as they preached the errors of his orc heritage and he was believed to be "Too stupid" to read.  When prayer failed to see him salvation and too afraid to commit suicide he resigned to his fate and fell into a massive spiral until hitting rock bottom. The life of the slave teaching him that his life was only worthy in service and without his masters he was nothing, that along with his fellow slaves they made the Shrine strong, and if he fell out of line it would mean his death.

Clinging to the only life he knew a point came in which he snapped- Despite all the pilgrims coming and going to the shrine no one would end his misery and none were coming to save him. Taking his fate into his own hands in a fit of rage during a beating he grabbed his master's wrists and snapped them. Unable to call upon his god's, the Priest and Rahum were at long last equals- except anything but. For Rahum had been abused and brutalized and put through a lifetime of physical labor while the Priest a life of sermon, scholarly pursuit and sloth. Snapping the priests neck with his change a simple task, too simple, but what followed was a number of years of fear, terror, concern and worry for what would become him. As an escaped slave he feared one thing more than death itself: His recapture. Pushing outwards he fled the village for fear he would be caught for his murder. Exploring the world of the surface he over time traveled across plains and marshes with caravans, worked and labored in Docks, and ultimately traveled wherever he could flee in search of putting as much distance between himself and the shrine. He had felt the trappings of civilization and to flee it traveled far and wide seeking to ever better himself to ensure that if he WAS to be captured he would take as many of them with him as he was possibly able- to make the cost of life and agony so high that any who sought to re-enslave him would be discouraged to ever attempt such. When his crimes in the massive cities became too known or his activities pushed him outwards he struck out into the world at large. The natural lands and forests, the steppes, and beyond. In his mind it was a struggle between the FURY and CONQUEST of the Orc - The subjugation and solitude to be either alone or atop a peak of broken corpses as he dominated territory and bent others to his will.  Battling this was the instincts of humanity- A thirst for knowledge and enlightenment, a search for peace and prosperity, and the bonding with other beings in commune with the world around him.

In refining his teachings he adopted Hoar's work- that of the Three Thunders. In his mind the workings of a majority of his faithful was foolish, folly, and ruined in whatever city or village he visited. Militias and vigilantes fighting on behalf of the so called "Innocents" in endless bloodshed between the city guards and the criminal enforcers, pushing themselves to the point where both sides reviled and despised the Hoarran presence. The criminals saw them as obstacles and interlopers. The Law saw them as overstepping their bounds as citizens and little more than thugs behind a veneer of philosophy. To these ends he sought a more self-serving and victim blaming approach.

If you were a vicitim it was because you were week, stupid, worthless or further. Such a state you would remain in for further abuses until such a time when you ceased being to so. A time when you began to stand for yourself, began to grow, to the point where you could abuse your abuser and find true vengeance. In this Rahum took to the offering of "Three Boons"
The Boon of Supply: Gold, potions, weapons, resources required to see your vengeance met.
The Boon of Counsel: Offering of information collected in his travels, his experience in crime as an advisory role, or his consultation on potential criminal activities to improve them.
The Boon of Reputation: The obfuscation of one's workings to help them stay secret and from the ears of others or to spread word to any he met of the enterprise and the vengeance to come upon the wronged
Spreading this craft he "Walked the earth" in search of more strength to escape his pursuers to the point where he decided he would go where few could or would dare pursue him: The Underdark. Fleeing for the Underdark before the end of the world was said to be suicide and nonsense. Having found and made his way below however he used such a thing as a security blanket. If he was strong enough to survive in the depths and his pursuers weren't he would at last be free. Battling his way throughout the darkness he came upon the Dark Lake and made his way to the Lower Ward of Sanctuary. Turning to alcohol to dull the mind he was ravaged by addiction to many illicit substances. Junksnuff, the Substance, Azure Wine, and more rattled his frame. Some aspects he sought for enlightenment others he craved to find some "EDGE" in his battle between humanity and his orcen lust for violence and battle.

Taking up with the Temple of Hoar he quickly found himself at odds with many of the local Harbingers and NORMAND in particular. Steps were swiftly taken to distance himself from these individuals even going so far as assisting Jasper Argyle with tools and supplies useful for a rogue to see Normad laid low. In Rahum's eyes such a man was only making himself stronger while the rest of Lower was left broken, beaten, and maligned. This did no good for Hoar and less good for the people of Lower so he stood against it taking steps over and over and over to both harm and make Lower suffer in hopes they would "rise to the challenge".

As his body began to grow stronger and stronger the narcotics and alcohol of Lower ceased aiding him in numbing his mind and a fierce crisis overtook him driving him away from the city into the wilds of the Underdark. Battling the likes of the Stewards, the Dur'Quessir, and more he sought refuge in the Frozen Cave of Tranquility as he operated amongst Natural politics. Going so far as to actually lead the SPELLGUARD to the territory of the Myconid where he had known the Dur'Quessir to flee he established quickly an opportunity. The Spellguard and Dur'Quessir both craved vengeance and he set the stage for a lengthy battle with many potions that eventually saw the Spellguard triumph. Manipulating matters in the wilds he preyed upon the desires of the Dur'quessir's followers for vengeance to push more and more hostile action towards the Spellguard and aided many of the wildwalkers in pursuit of battling the Dunwarren.

After being bested by MASTER REN within the Frozen Cave he came to the conclusion that his weakness would not be stopped by the activities within the Cave. Abandoning it he flush further and outward into the Underdark in pursuit of greater and vaster strength. He returned to the Lower Dunwarren with increased frequency to find himself thrusted into a multi-schismed conflict with Madeye Ellet, The Faithful of Umberlee, and the Faithful of Ghaunadur. It was at this time he began acquiring further contacts and a number of would be followers as he pushed himself even harder. Seeking greater challenges and undertaking feats such as Solo-Trips to the Lowerdark, the furthest reaches of the Machine, and beyond.

The Lowerdark becoming a point of emphasis for his further actions and activities he battled the Drow of the Dread Plains regularly in effort to strengthen himself. When he realized that he would never be able to return to the Surface or truly be able to "Walk as he pleased" so long as the Dread Empire was alive he sought refuge amongst the Society of the Ordered Mind and upon his Ordainment he began a one-man-army of efforts against the Dread Empire. Solo-trips to Traensyr, battling the furthest and largest creations of the Machine and ultimately leading a patrol to the gates of Ysinode and back to Sanctuary. Amongst the Society of the Ordered Mind he was a brutal and harsh figure rebuking conventional wisdom of the Society and refusing on many fronts to be coddled. They were brothers not sisters and he never asked for their help and never expected it likewise. He began a contentious figure in many ways but also spurned on a lot of gruff style conflict which was great fun.

Though the sworn duty to battle the Aberrant he has taken up against the Dread Empire he has embarked for the furthest reaches of the Lowerdark and eventually seeks to rise to the surface. Carrying the Society's teachings with him, coupled with his own he once more walks alone, his two month span of time in and around the Dunwarren irrevocably changed his life forever. In making peace with his Half-Orc roots, both Man and BEAST he has become an unrelenting force of willpower and combat prowess.

As in all things though, RAHUM walks alone seeking to be the strongest their is. He walks where he pleases. That walk now takes him away from the Dunwarren...

His return is uncertain

I'm proud to say this Hermit PC never made a sending, never even carried a sending stone, never set foot within Upper Sanctuary and avoided overly using the forums as a tool for spreading his actions and activities.

A wild two month ride and special thanks to everyone who helped me bring this story to life. While I've had a lot of characters on EFU, RAHUM is the sort of PC I have always wanted to make on the server and fits more aligned with most of the PCs I play in other games. I've even used him and his story as a template for other games as well as a bit of artwork in some of my classes and I'm pleased to say everything we helped put together I hope to use for a very long time in other games moving forward.

Though Rahum's time on EFU has come to an end his story will most certainly continue in one medium or another.

Absolutely MONKTASTIC!

Monk is one of my favorite classes and Rahum showed an awesome aspect of the monk especially in a pursuit of enlightenment.
<SkillFocuspwn> no property developers among men only brothers

Cruath Quasith

I had to save these screenshots, because it was too funny/awesome at the time.

Eileen the Scrapknight's first lesson on being a badass wanderer. Rahum takes her to the Spire and spouts some monk wisdom as they climb to the top. I honestly had no idea OOC what the true intent of the lesson was until Rahum started beating the shit out of my character, and I had to delete the timecube nonesense I had queued up to emote being bopped pretty hard and fast.

Definitely one of my favorite PCs, and I'm pissed you're retiring him before our master/student showdown!!!

Vagrant Savant

Jack raised the bar for monks. Stuck to his guns, and was interesting to be with in the few times I had the chance.

WriterX

I shall miss him :(

Knight Of Pentacles

An uncompromising bad ass who tried hard to shake the server up. I'm disappointed to see him go but I can understand why you retired him.

Vlaid

I enjoyed our completely opposite styles of monk portrayal but finding some mutual respect despite our obvious differences. It was like the odd couple of monks wandering together, kicking traensyr in the balls as you searched for strength and I searched for the lost library of traensyr.

He was a great monk, one of the best I've seen for sure.

No screenshots of our duel? For shame.

Pandip

Cool cat. Was fun getting to know him on Nhuduira, and seeing his development further as Charlotte.

Haer Dalis 83

A character who exuded strength and independence. All the times I journeyed with him I knew it would have been worth.
