After a long run of switching between extreme activity and sudden inactivity, Harzun has finally met his demise.

First off, I would like to apologize for my prolonged absence in the last few weeks. It's very difficult for me to balance real life with EFU because when I start playing, I just can't bring myself to stop, and so I had to distance myself from EFU for a while to focus on school.

Anyhow, with that out of the way, I would like to thank the players and DMs of EFU

Harzun Mar-Zokh came to Sanctuary's vicinity as one of many outriders the Khagan had sent out to scout the area. Due to the failure of his predecessors, he always thought himself special to be the one sent out against the surface-dwellers. Where others had failed, the Herald of War will succeed. Due to his large success against Sanctuarians, particularly when avenging his fallen brothers, he began to believe himself more than a mere soldier in the Khagan's army. He began to have ambitions of his own and doubt would slowly blossom in his mind regarding some of the Khaganate's traditions.

He was intrigued by the culture of the surface-dwellers and believed that it should be remembered, recorded for when Sanctuary burns in the Khaganate's wake. But as he fought them and spoke with them, the surface-dwellers began to influence him more and more. Soon enough, he saw how many of the Khaganate's traditions were unnecessary, and when facing an enemy as powerful as the Dread, quite detrimental to the Khaganate's cause. He no longer desired to think of himself as a mere soldier in the Khagan's army - he had agenda to pursue of his own, now. He was the Herald of War, with a group of his own men, his small army that would cause chaos and torment Sanctuary in a way that the Hordemaster could never even hope to.

But despite his efficiency, the growing distance between him and the traditions of the Khaganate were not unnoticed by the Hordemaster. At that point, Harzun remained loyal to the Khaganate, but his admiration for the powerful warrior that Ganbold is had diminished so much by then that he followed his lead only because he saw no other way for the Orog Khaganate to survive - something the Hordemaster could not overlook.

Screenshots! I am really, really bad at taking screenshots and so I'll try to somewhat make up for the lack of them with a small narrative.

[hide=Early days][/hide][hide=Avenging the fallen outriders]
It all began when Harzun and his cohort assaulted a group of Sanctuarians. Despite his confidence in victory, the War Herald's cohort was scattered and his taintblooded servant executed. Even though the Herald desired the surface-dwellers' blood, this particular slight doubled his thirst for vengeance. Another two skirmishes with Sergeant Durgin Blackstone, Deathstalker Viirys Tehlraziir and their cohort followed, both resulting in victories for the Sanctuarians with minor casualties on the War Herald's side. But each time he was forced to retreat, the Herald of War learned from the surface-dweller champions and eventually, he took his revenge. (Kudos to Vlaid and VP for the rivalry. VP, that pvp had was one of the most epic fights I've ever had on EFU.)

[/hide][hide=Yastin Dalley, the rising champion of Sanctuary] Their story began when Harzun ambushed and brought down Yastin before the gates. Admiring the Watcher's loyalty to the Shield, he decided to spare his life. Some time later, Harzun went as far as to dissuade one of his allies from killing Yastin when he was meant to be slain for an old grudge between the two. The War Herald hoped that Yastin Dalley's strength from their encounters would grow so much that one day they would face each other as equals on the battlefield, not unlike when he fought the demonspawn, Viirys Tehlraziir. While the epic battle never took place, when Harzun decided to spare Yastin's life yet again, his overconfidence was shown when the devious Dalley struck him down with a well-timed attack after Harzun attempted to force him to duel another Watcher to the death. The only reason the Herald survived that encounter was thanks to one of his allies quickly interfering and bringing Dalley down. Harzun's faith in his abilities was shattered by this, and it served as proof to the surface-dwellers that he is not as undefeatable as he would like them to think. (Amazing stuff, DRD. You rock)
(foreshadowing by the Doctor...)

[/hide][hide=Inner strife within the Khaganate...]
The Hordemaster confronts the War Herald about his disrespect for the Khaganate's traditions. Harzun, believing his way superior, stands his ground, refusing to accept that he had in any way brought disgrace to the Khaganate - to him, efficiency is a priority. A notion that earns him the Khagan's ire....

The Herald of War is thrown into the pit, to be slaughtered like cattle while his former brothers in war chant for his blood. To their surprise, the disgraced orog warrior lives up to his reputation and title, cleaving through the Khaganate's champions one by one.

Until finally, no other warrior would face the Herald of War. Except one...

And the would-be duel that may decide the future of the Khaganate commences...

[/hide][hide=The Outcome - The End]Defeated by the far superior Hordemaster, a true master of combat, the Herald of War asks the opportunity to speak his last words...

THE END
[/hide]

Thanks for the ride, EFU.

A legend that I wish I had met!

Wow.  Well done.  I don't think your PC saw me, but I was around for a few of your conquests around the underdark, and your characterization was always impressive - your class in dealing with felled PCs moreso.  Killer dialog in those screenies (and on Ladocicea's part as well).
