Bit of a harsh death.

Hi there, Calc was running a quest for us and this happened.

Insta-fugue'ing was not nice. The rockfall provoked an AoO crit to insta-fuguetown. Any recourse for this, gents?
Character is Khalindra al'Indros

Calculor

It was hard spice and AoO's happen. Tough luck, but I always make my spice optional and (try) to make the reward proportional to the risk.

With all due respect, I know the spice was hard.

But what exactly does that have to do with this?

Apocryphal Misconceptions

These falling builders stop our characters from moving for a short moment. If the Drow was in melee range and you started running away again, that will have provoked the AoO.

I think what these other gents are trying to say is that unfair, horrible, and truly unfortunate things happen to people who delve into extremely unstable, drow-inhabited tunnels deep within a particularly dangerous section of the lowerdark. A very pragmatic lesson to learn from this is that in the thrill of a realistic challenge, death is occasionally not merely a strong possibility, but a near certainty.
Ample opportunities were given to retreat. I would suggest that it was absolutely the height of foolishness for us to press on each time, and I doubt anyone could say otherwise.
If anything, perhaps take pride in that this sort of death was literally an unavoidable fluke - rather than the result of a chink in the character's armour. When the circumstances are beyond your control, you're pretty much absolved of fault for your misfortune beyond putting yourself in that position in the first place.

It is ultimately perfectly reasonable that getting conked on the head by a tumbling boulder may render anyone susceptible to another attack from one's pursuer.

It does suck, but I think in the end this was a bit of a reality check on the harsh life of adventurers - for all of us. Don't sweat it. :)

We're all (or most) feeling a little bitter from that event but to put dying in it as a "Bug Report" is a little ridiculous. It was a good mix of our stupidity and a little bit of cheapness, but we'll hopefully learn that the Underdark is pretty dangerous from this!

You're probably going to get the same answer a bunch of times, which is that the mechanics are features of the game engine that are functioning the way they have to.

Dying to a crit on a DM event sucks especially on an Attack of Opportunity, it was really unlucky and we've all had PCs die like that, but you're going to need to keep rolling with the punches and cross your fingers that next time you'll survive all the way through and get some hot and spicy DM l3wtz.
<elmo>: i have to say for me your glory days have been on EFUR RagingPurpleGiant1

No bugs here. This is not a discussion thread. Locking.
