Not.Him.Again

Had a bit of an interesting experience the other day. A character of mine did something that was completely IC for him but not particularly nice. I feld bad about it afterwards OOC. Has anyone else had this happen or am I just way to soft hearted .
Thoughts?

I never feel bad about things i do in a game. Try playing "Diplomacy", and you'll know the meaning of treason.

All the time, it's one of the things that really makes me not like playing Evil too much!

IxTheSpeedy

I have this problem big time and it's a reason I find it very hard to play overtly evil characters.

Did you shoot them a tell afterwords?  sometimes that helps so they realize you aren't a jerk IRL too...

tooh

A just case for "Jack Sparrow" paradox: "You can only trust in dishonest people."

It is a game and games give us experiences, like infants we learn about our reasons and reactions, better IG than OCC.

I am a huge softy. :/

...

Does it surprise anyone that I haven't had this problem?

No, but maybe it's because you're a good RPer?

And yes, I have felt this when I've played Ebol on campaigns and such. I'm Team Good :)

IMO, it makes the game more interesting if PCs are willing to do bad things.
However!
It shouldn't be for the sole reason of powering up a character by taking advantage of a weaker character.
That's an IC attitude for plenty, but OOC the victim should get some quality RP out of it.
I'm not talking about all muggers being the pirates of penzance. Using mugging as an example, it would be good to go through some dialogue, offering real choices to the victim, rather than just beating them down and taking stuff, followed by a bit of gloating over their helpless body.

AKMatt

I am terrible about this.

Being involved in an incident or two recently, I certainly hope nobody involved felt bad about it OOC.  When done in good taste, The experience should be good for both sides.

Pup

I too feel a pang of guilt when I switch to full death and end someone.  But, the game would not be nearly as interesting without it happening from time to time.
"So what else is on your mind besides 100 proof women, 90 proof whisky, and 14 karat gold?"
"Amigo, you just wrote my epitaph."

"Maybe there's just one revolution.  The good guys against the bad guys.  The question is, who are the good guys?"

I am not physically hurting anyone in real life, so I do not feel guilty.

Sure I feel guilty on occasions, as much for ending something that would have been fun for someone. But as Pup says without it would be much less exciting in those PVP instances.
