Erhm.. This is in the General Discussions thread actually fellas.

Knight Of Pentacles

In some parts of the US, terrorist has become a slur against Muslims and people of Middle Eastern descent.  Particularly where I live.  So when I hear this it just sort of leaves a bad taste in my mouth.  I wouldn't want to hear this word used in game any more than I'd want to hear any other slur.  Be more creative with your insults and terminologies.  While this might not be against the rules, I'm certainly going to think less of people who use these sort of words.

It wasn't. I guess it got moved since my last post. Well... get the horses running. It's officially a discussion now! :D

Nuclear Catastrophe

To quote "terrorism" being a word that has been in use for many ages is deliberately misleading and just because such a word was once used by the French government in response to the Revolutionaries doesn't make it any less unfortunate a term to use ingame.  The word now clearly has much more connection with the current usage in modern media. I don't blame anyone that finds it immersion breaking - it's a little 'close to the bone', as with so many modernism's that could theoretically find their way into EfU.

There are so many words to use that it seems insensate to pick this loaded, morally questionable expression to describe actions in our innocent crazy little world - there are arguments TO THIS DAY about the very -definition- of terrorism, and what the difference is between those considered terrorists and those considered more lawful insurgency/guerrilla groups that end up opposing radical governments.  Nelson Mandela may have been considered a "terrorist" once, but to call him that these days would seem insulting and churlish, would it not?

I realise that the word been used in DM announcements in the past; but I would suggest that actively calling oneself a "terrorist group" or trying to make an Elf-Qaeda sort of group is extremely poor taste at best.

The Crimson Magician

AFAIK usage of the word has been targeted at groups that oppose Sanctuary by Sanctuary institutions to paint them a certain color

likewise other contextualized instances include when other groups paint certain Sanctuarian institutions as terrorist groups to put them in a similar light

Maximum Xas

I think the FR term for terrorist group is usually "cult of [insert god of strife here]". Depending on who you ask, "Harper" qualifies as well.

It's not necessarily something I'd have picked up on myself, really, simply because it's not an issue around here, and I probably will use it IG, because in the thick of things, I'll simply forget one particular word in a foreign language is "bad", but please be assured this is not with intent to offend anyone.

Divine Intervention

As a term this really doesn't bother me, a group dedicated to achieving its aims by use of calculated actions to intimidate/terrorise can aptly be described as terrorist.  It seems no more anachronistic than autocratic/authoritarian.

I would also concur it is not the same as terms such as "racist" as has been noted there are distinct racial differences in efu unlike the pseudo-scientific ideas of irl racism.
