I have finally gotten the game to run on this windows 8 machine, but, I am lagged, specifically whenever there are more the 2? enemies or pc's on the screen.  This is a constant. I have a 60mbs connection, and a PC that can run TESO at extreme Graphics settings and play a movie at the same time., but little old NWN just one constant lag spike..any ideas? I have checked the background process and turned almost all off..My computer that ran win 7 and was a dinosaur by comparison ran the game just fine..any help is appreciated.

open your nwnplayer.ini file (it is located in same directory as the game) and in [Game Options] section add this line (or change existing one to =1):

Client CPU Affinity=1

Thanks VP, that seemed to do it!

My jubilation premature. VP's suggestion made walking around town etc nearly lag free, but the minute I a on a quest and faced with more then two mobs or have more then 5 pcs with me, it's like being on Dialup.  I am sure it is windows 8.1, as it is a horrible OS, but still looking for a fix,

Thanks!

If this problem mostly occurs when larger groups of enemies / players are in motion, like walking, compared to just standing around, the issue may be your audio setting. This has been the case with myself and several others.

Try going into Audio Options and then Advanced Sound Options, and change your sound provider to Miles Fast 2D Positional Audio.

I was having possibly similar issues with NWN on win8... haven't tried 8.1 yet, so who knows if this helps.

On my last server, I was getting terrible lag, reaching to unplayable levels if there was anything going on. Did all the normal stuff with the .ini, which helped but not as much as I was hoping. But I made do. Trying to start off a new character was just was not working. So I looked around a bit, and found a few other things to try I hadn't seen mentioned anywhere else.

I did three things at once, so I'm not sure which worked the magic. I set audio to a 2D option (which I've seen mentioned, but apparently I forgot to try before), downloaded and installed the DirectX9c (I swear I did that before too... but here: http://tinyurl.com/mruqufc, and having the more updated DriectX10/11 isn't enough it seems), and changed the color setting on the application (right click on the application, properties, use the compatibility mode for XPsp3, then 'reduced color mode'* to 16bit).

* Reduced color mode doesn't actually reduce the colors, just limits it to only trying to display the colors NWN uses.

I am not sure which one worked, but I did all of the above., and presto..lagis nonhavis! Thanks to all three of you, much more enjoyable gaming experience now.
