What was your first day in EFU like?

Howlando

I am simultaneously amused and deeply disturbed by the "harshness" of everyone's first day....

The Crimson Magician

found out I could play a kobold, logged in to spawn in the pissing crone and got FD'd by the first gnome that saw me in free PvP Lower by picking a fight and continuing to insult while subdued. the character lasted less than a minute in total, but luckily by one minute in I wasn't too attached to the character.

cmenden

I honestly didn't post my own since it's not particularly harsh! I just made an elven rogue/ranger, since I knew how to play that class/race combo "pretty well" already.

People were like "SUP CMENDEN" and I joined up with some Lower dudes for questy-fun.

Good times.

My first day on EFU is like a dream. I was a naked dwarf running around everywhere impressed by all the talking npcs (pcs) and wondering why I couldn't bring up a dialogue menu with them.

Stranger

Failing to find the Hooded Man, I was exploring the vicinity of the Strange Fortress on my level 2 elf monk when I somehow got lot in the access ways. The character eventually died in the residential districts to animatons. There were no DMs to help me. I logged out.

The next day, I made a Mesmerizing sorcerer. Over the next few months, I struggled to keep level 4 and died in every conceivable way. DM Ladocicea gave me increasingly powerful loot in the futile effort to help me; I only found new ways to need a respawn. As the server staff simply could not be available at all hours to clear me, my character's corpse was brought to the Mausoleum a ridiculous number of times.

His routine state of "dead but now he's not" felt as though I was spoiling the immersion of others, so I decided he'd just stay a corpse and moved on.

Abandoned-1

My first day wasn't terrible.

I made a dwarf named Loghaire Harrow, who had a dream of building a town. Wandered into the docks district and encountered a bunch of people fighting nightrisers. Many of those people turned out to be Banites who had a temple by the entrance, so I hid in there. Surprisingly they didn't kick me out.

I ended up meeting a guy named Conrad, who lived at Castle Blackhearth. He let me team up with him, and we set to work making plans for a town.

All in all, I didn't find out how harsh the server was until the Docks rose up against the nobility.

I walked out the gates because I was unsure what to do, walked right up to the spider caves, then a dire bat crushed me.  The server of course looked/design was way different than it is now. ;)

Letsplayforfun

I don't remember the first day at all.

But my first memory of efu was leaving town with a mage, and getting shot to death by a goblin, respawning and having a nice soul give me an invisibility potion to grab my stuff and saying something like "this is ooc, my character would never do this ICly..."

Harsh and nice. Efu, in short.

I spent HOURS writing my Halfling Sorcerer bio in his description. Then pretty much just walked around. Think Thomas appeared somewhere as well.

Mort I believe it was, ran the EFU1 chosen quest as a DM quest before the quest sytem was initiated. Casualties were huge. Tons of people showed up and died horribly maybe four people survived and those of us who survived were fucking terrified and thrilled to have found invisibility potions and one haste potion.

Wandering around Lower Sanctuary I fell in love with the grit because it was so like the Fallout series of games. Rundown apocalyptic town in a harsh wasteland, Brotherhood of Steel in Upper Sanctuary, Ghouls and Super Mutants in the Underdark (undead and thralls ho), Death Claws in the Sewers (Chosen), Raiders (Drow) and all the awesome fun.

From that point on I was pretty hooked. All the apocalyptic grit, shady crime, political struggle to hold the world together or exploit the end of the world for my own gain.

It was beautiful.

Shouldn't yours have been "FRICKEN GLITCHEN" Thomas?

My accountably "most recent" days on the server was back in EFU:M days when BOM decided to throw a party with the Mytrylan Red Star as a backdrop. My fighter build PC got hit hard in the head with swarms of Red Stars, and almost fugued, but he survived in the end, thanks to the concentration of PCs present in Mistlocke. An awesome storm, that is. The PC walked around town afterwards, and died for a few times in the scavenging quest down the warehouse to spiders. However, I don't think I remember anybody's name in particular back then... I only remember it was a pale-skinned guy with a GFX that resembles an vampire that guided me around the town, but I don't recall I ever checked for his handle...

The Old Hack

I got told of EfU about halfway through its second chapter by my friend PoP. Decided to roll a fighter just to try it out and see what it was like. I arrived on the Ziggurat, lost and confused, and soon after met two PCs talking where one was invisible (I had NO idea about the politics at the time, I only later realised that the invisible guy was likely someone seedy and wanted by other PCs.) I very hesitantly asked what was going on and was amazed and pleased by how willing they were to include me in the RP.

Next I ambled to the Docks and found myself witnessing an argument where someone was accused of some obscure misdeed by several others and then fled. The Talosian cleric who led the investigation said "His fleeing is proof of his guilt." My big mouth took over and I said "His fleeing is proof that he is scared of several angry armed people who wouldn't listen to him." Soon after this turned into a fight and I got creamed. o.o

My fighter continued to amble around for a couple days and the primary impact she made on the server was the thud she made when hitting the ground after making stupid mistakes in a fight. I then got inspired by the name of the server and made a halfling sorcerer named Solace who had fled slavery under the drow after brutal torture and being magically coloured into looking like a drow as a sick joke (look, we have a mini-drow slave!) (At the time I had no idea that this probably would have required DM consent or an application but the DMs let it pass.) She soon made friends with a Son of Sabuth called Psalms played by... Thomas. >.>

That's mean. You're a friend. I'd have FDed you for nothing.
