The Treasure Hunter's Journal, Vol I: Targan Warblades
by Gnorman MacDonald

The Targan Warblades are among the most actively sought treasures within our Archipelago. All major organizations, be it House Sharboneth, The Numinous Order, the Stygian Armada, and countless others from Old Port and beyond seek these treasures. Of this set, there are four Targan Warblades that each correspond to a champion buried within the Shrine of Targus, located in the Temple District, east of the Ziggurat. The four Targan Warblades are the following:

Famine, a shortsword formerly held by Bloodreaver Fragarach, the Desolated.
Death, a longsword formerly held by Bloodreaver Carnes Mors, the Slayer.
War, a two-handed sword formerly held by Bloodreaver Dar Balmung, the Conqueror.
Pestilence, a bastard sword formerly held by Bloodreaver Attilaq, the Ravager.

It is said that when these four blades are returned to their respective tombs at the Shrine of Targus, together their powers will unite to allow an individual to pull out the massive Blade of Zhanarruk stuck within the stone pedestal in the center of the Targus Shrine. Rumor has it that this blade is possibly the most powerful artifact atop Ymph, and by releasing it, one also releases the undead spirit of Zhanarruk himself. Many individuals seek to release Zhanarruk in belief that he will be subservient to their will, but whether this is actually the case is unknown. Other individuals seek the blades in order to halt Zhanarruk's release, thus preventing the possible damage caused if these extraordinary powers were bestowed to a mortal man.

Treasure hunters, beware that pursuing these blades is dangerous! They are highly sought after, and many men, notably the late Francisco de Olid, will kill in order to acquire them. Moreso, it is unknown how these blades effect the bearer, and whether unleashing Zhanarruk is desirable. For those who wish to prevent Zhanarruk's release, they must simply find and secure a single blade.

WHERE TO START? Since nearly every major organization has information relating to the Targan Warblades, make alliances with them and see what information you can find. You may be able to discover which individuals hold them, or what closed doors they are locked behind. At the very least, you will obtain a thread to pull upon.
