This has been happening several times lately in some of the private channels that I am in by several #efu participants.

I would like to publicly ask and urge anyone doing this to stop sleuthing channel participants through some WhoIs function. It is obtrusive as #%$K.

Yes, channels can be hidden etc. but as this is usually not the case, simply show some respect towards other people's privacy in private rooms.

Why not publicly out those who you think are doing this?  We can't control IRC, but we can make those that abuse it accountable.

Though I would suggest contacting players personally to make sure they weren't just testing the channel to see what the deal was with a faction.

I've jumped onto forums just to see what the faction was about.  I don't always engage or ask questions, I just want to see how everyone gets along and what the faction is about.
"So what else is on your mind besides 100 proof women, 90 proof whisky, and 14 karat gold?"
"Amigo, you just wrote my epitaph."

"Maybe there's just one revolution.  The good guys against the bad guys.  The question is, who are the good guys?"

makes the channel actually secret, since any joker who does a /whois command on somebody in a non-secret channel will know immediately every channel that they're in.
