What I miss most about the Council

Its not like I'm some kind of democracy nut (although, those of you who know me also know that I am one) or that I even think it makes sense given the setting, which it really doesn't, but I wanted to just post something about this because its been nagging at me for a bit now. What I miss most about the council was not its leadership, or ability to get things done (both of which are arguably poor). I don't miss the representative government or even voting.

What I miss most about the council is the campaign. Scores of fliers littering the streets. All the crazies coming out of the woodwork to run for office. The inevitable assassination plots, the rhetoric, the speeches, the circus.

It seems unlikely this is going to come back (at least not anytime soon) but I'm curious what everyone else thinks. I feel like the council really set the server apart back in the day, and even though it proved to be an ineffective tool, I enjoyed it!

And please refrain from the "go out and make it" stuff. I'd love too, but am far to busy to organize a kegger, let alone a revolution. Just stating a feeling I've got and wondering if anyone else has the same itch I do.

I think the guild system is more interesting.

Sandstorm

I do not miss the hordes of posters. Most people did not know what people really wanted, anyway!

Kiaring

People wanted to FIGHT FOR THEIR STEP.

I am looking forward to us getting the Court system running and off the ground, sure. A system for players to have a major impact on the local politics and a way to become important/prominent is important, and is and will continue to be something we focus on.

But the Council? I do NOT MISS THAT. You guys have no idea what a terrific pain it was.

Every DM that tried to focus on it was systematically broken. The system was somewhere in between Dante and Kafka in its ability to render bright-eyed, fresh-faced, optimistic newbie DMs into burned out wrecks.

Caddies

I am also one of the few fans who really, really enjoyed the Council concept.

I also think the Guild/Banner concept has just as much if more potential though!

I can has fun?

As someone who campaigns for a living, I do not miss this part of EfU.

Lansert

Always liked the idea that players could run for an office with so much power.

Of course this power was nothing compared to the great gods of Spellguard!  All hail our overlords!  Long live their spells!

Screw the Council.  Caddies for Emperor imo.

my two cents,
Meow-mix!

I just about died laughing when councilor gankings led to councilor chicken cloaks...good times!

Council never appealed to me, I can believe it was a pain, but it did add something. You could really be someone who moved our little Sanctuary. That was cool.

I think the banner/ guild thing has a lot of potential too. It'll be cool to see where that goes in the future.

Long live the political gankings! Very fond memories!

Cruzel

I think we are all missing how the entire council system was torn asunder just as my Seat opened up.

Dr Dragon

The council was awesome. Also it is kind of the councils fault on why Sheps took over.

dragonfire9000

Cruzel really should have conquered Sanctuary.

Scholar pwnage anyone?

Seriously though, don't miss it at all. The flyers annoyed me and I never really cared who won anyways. Kind of like a lot of people in RL with elections... I heard a sad quote earlier this week, "If we stop voting will they all just go away?"
