Standard drop Tower shields

Right now, the standard drop tower shields are just plain terrible. Even low level quests drop +1 Large shields, most of them with other bonuses which are pretty good. They are lighter, and in most cases better than any tower shield dropped on any quest I have seen.

Given the fact these things weigh a ton, I think they could use a bit of a boost, after all the weight in itself can be a gimping factor for a PC.  Back when tower shields were like  3x lighter, I could see there being an issue in +1 and other good bonus tower shields as standard drops, but now that they are so heavy, few people who do choose to use them should have the same chance to find a decent shield on a quest.

Yep, supported, else the mercenary shield will become the standard.

Legion tower +1 discipline, warrior only.
Cult tower +1 spellcraft, cleric only.
Copper/ bronze/ silver/ tortoise Tower +2 resist acid/ fire/ etc.

Tower +1 AC seems a bit powerful, but then again EfUA has more powerful lootz than EFU, and the weight is an issue (which is good).

Ebok

They used to be more like Extreme Steel Shields in weight, which have a +3 ac as per PnP. However, with their weight be corrected up to 45 lbs, they could stand to be boosted to the standard PnP +4 ac, however those also come with a +2 reflex vs area effects and -2 ac due to your shield giving your enemies partial cover... However! I do concur with Cruzel, towers shields as they are, are seriously not worth the weight.

Insofar as I've seen, all the tower shields other than the Copper one have Weight Reduction in addition to other bonuses. Mercenary/Jergali/Pimped Nightriser shields shill beat them though.

I wouldn't do with More AC, but I would like to see more light tower shields with bonuses. That sort of divides things into the +1 Larges, or Tower Shields with different enchants because hey, they already give high protection.

Ebok

I think the point was, They don't give high protection. They give normal protection. As magical large shields are the standard for most developed shield bearers. I've seen and had the chance to own multiple +1 large shields on every character I've played.

Their weight could easily warrant +1 more ac. Or at least, the possibility of finding some that have no weight reduction, and have a higher ac--perhaps at a penalty to something else due to having a 45 lb door strapped on one of your arms.

As for the point, the basic tower shield is hardly worth a drop, spicing them in some way could add a bit more use for the heavy buggers.

I think the amount of +1 Large shields is so large just due to the fact that tower shields are more or less unusable by most, due to weight. The +1 Large shields are there to substitute the tower shields.

And of course, I would have the copper.

There is no denying that Tower shields are way worse than large shields as they are.  Large shields are good, But they should not /replace/ tower shields.  Tower shields right now aren't really used, and I can't really blame anyone for not using them. They are 3x heavier than a standard large shield, and offer the same protection because like every quest on the server drops a +1 large shield.

+1 Tower shields should be just as common, along with other towershields.  The only tower shields I ever see anymore are the negative blasting one, the copper one, and some other useless one without any bonusses whatsoever.

They are heavy, and that is a huge penalty.

Not all of them should be +1 AC, but they should definately be more common in loot pools and have bonusses to make htem a worthwhile choice

Gippy

Pretty against +1 towersheilds. Towershields providing meaningful skill bonuses however, I am all for.

One of my favorite aesthetic things about the server is that large shields are way more commonly used than towers (unlike every other server ever).

Certianly no more AC, a few more flavorful towers is certainly fine - there's a good number already.

But I do prefer them to be a less common item use, best used for stodgy dwarven-defender types or the occasional moving-castle helmite.

"moving-castle helmite"

I kind of like that idea for a pc...

Gwydion

What about a +2 armor mod vs. missle fire for tower shields?

Makes sense, and would justify the heavier weight without influencing 90% of combat and PvP.

It would make sense for a defensive combat cleric rushing about the battle field, employing one of these.

Semli

One tower from EfU comes to mind that was pretty decent in comparison to even +1 large shields. I would probably consider using it if I came across another.

I have seen a tower with an AC bonus vs. a specific sort of opponent (that are not prevalent in the new setting), but no, it really wasn't enough to warrant actually using the thing with the equipment I had at the time.

I agree that more/better towers should pop up.

I can has fun?

I always thought the AC bonuses vs damage type were a good trade-off between power and utility. I could see where giving tower shields bonus AC to bludgeoning or piercing, or perhaps some immunities to certain elemental damage types, would make tower shield worth their weight.

*chuckles* I'm going to make one, and name him Howl.

Anyways, I use a tower shield as a part of my character's combat-style, something I tend to roleplay if I'm not clicking madly at the "Cure Crit" potion...

So I would appreciate this greatly. Also, I do a fair amount of questing and try to do different jobs, and I've yet to see a single +1 AC large shield with this character.
