Howland,

I was gone the weekend the UD got gankt, but came back at the end. My druid who was my main PC died in a solo attempt to get out. I think he got pretty far...but I dunno ;)

I had a few other PCs I played here and there, so not knowing what was going to go on, I fought my way out, sneaked out, or used spells to escape. I wasn't sure how the UD/ A thing was going to pan out so I covered my bases as best I could by getting them to safe spawn points. I answered Caddies letter left because that character resides at Mur, but even so, I'd likely never bring him topside just because it wouldn't work and would require a good reason IG to do it. He's just a wealth of UD history and would likely be a fun character to meet, but that's all I intended there.

The other two are nothing special, but I'd get 'em out for nostalgia's sake if I could maybe. I actually find my two "A" characters to be a bit richer and more well developed. I'll be sticking with and playing them.

Any PC or DM that has any feelings on this subject, I'd like to here what you have to say. Feel free to be specific to your character, in general, but I'd really like to here what the DMs would like/ not like to see here.

I think that PCs from the underdark are interesting for the stories and perspective they have. I would encourage as many of them to escape as possible, personally. At this point they're hardly overpowering loot or level wise.

There are some UD PCs that have had their day, and are best left to rot in your character vault. Especially prominant PCs that were dropped in favor of some new concept. Especially PCs that may have dodged death because they 'stepped out' for a bit.

Howlando

If you roleplayed finding some new safe place to live then I personally have no issue with the character still being around. My announcement was simply to address the situation of characters who had not changed their spawn point since the Rock Bottom Tavern, had done nothing IC to survive the catastrophe(s), and miraculously survived everything in a sort of "off-camera" way.

Gippy

I do not know what happend to your drow, for example, but that is a PC that I would not like see return -- even if he made it to safety.

Yes. We dont want "Oh look at that, everyone, but NPCs survived... With no food... no safe hideout... while both the Chosens and the Drow are the peak of their power."

It just doesn't feel right for most people on the DM team (and I'm sure deep down it might not feel right for you, right?). We like the story on efu/efu:a to mesh well and be cohesive, and immersive and for that to happen, we have to draw a line.

How many pages until Godwin's law is invoked?

It's somewhat unfair to those who validly made it through The Way and were then told to retire their PCs, if it was merely possible to step "off-stage" in the Underdark and appear again, no worse for wear, when the "big-bads" from EFUA come down to visit.

This is sort of what I was looking for. If you were there for the fall of Sanctuary, then got somewhere safe, I'd think it reasonable that you're probably ok now. Maybe... But, on the other hand, the other part of me thinks, Well..what about between then and now?

I also didn't know some of the ones who made it up had to retire their PC. That would almost make it feel cheap to bring a UD guy up now for me. I mean if all you had to do was wait and not have to retire, wouldn't that be the way to go?

9live's "off-stage" analogy makes sense, but also, on the other hand...all the quests are shut down and no one was playing down there just days after this happened...how could you gear up/ supply up for a trip up?

I just wanted a read from the players and the DMs to see what you all thought and felt about this. Thanks for the input on it, I've decided that barring crazy circumstance mine will stay down there ;)

Howlando

I don't recall any characters who made it up the Way being asked to retire themselves as a formal policy.

We actually kept most of the higher level quests open, and they remain open.

As I said, you're free to do as you please with your character if you RP'ed them finding somewhere safe to go.

Any retirements post-Way were fine, I think, but I am grumpy and thus not in favour of a lot of these PCs returning.

Dr Dragon

I find it super lame that Ud PCs dont try to escape at all or anything and then when people from EFUA come down they want to go "OOO LET ME GET MY PC I ABANDONED TO GO UP TOP AND ESCAPE!" OOOO SOMEHOW I SURVIVED IN SANCTUARY DESPITE IT BEING INFESTED BY CHOSEN OOOO"

I think it is lame how pcs permad trying to escape while those that just sat around in the UD decide to log in as soon as Pcs announce they are going down their.

Personally im all in favor of forced retirement of all UD Pcs that did not escape from the Underdark.

Just my 2 gold.

I find your artful use of CAPS-LOCK provided the perfect counter-point to my argument, The Good Doctor.

While I'm not that much for bringing back old PCs out of retirement, I wouldn't mind people logging in those spawning outside Dunwarren or at the Illythiiri ruins just to attempt the Way and discard the character after the fact. It's great fun from what I know and the bottom line is that we're playing here primarily to enjoy ourselves.

Letsplayforfun

Much argument about nothing, really. Unless the Way suddenly 'opens up', which i doubt.

Most PCs will die at some point anyways, and the UD ones won't respawn, so the matter will be settled quickly for those who do try.

As for PCs trying the Way now, i'll take a fair guess many players had different pcs, some tried the way, other found no one left to do it with...

It's just a brief period where heads will pop up again, and most sink down for good, imo. And those who do make it will get pawned at the surface at some point anyways, so...

Sedarine

My druid was only 6th level IIRC, I wanted to try to supply up a bit before trying the way, but found I couldn't take any of the quests, which were lower level ones. I missed the fact that the higher level ones were still open. I'm pretty sure that it wouldn't have made too much difference anyway now, but at that point it seemed like a good idea. It also seemed near impossible after a few days to even find anyone, so it didn't matter too much.

Maybe it's just lovin' the good ol' days, but I thought Caddies trip down there might be a good opportunity for a little memory lane trip ;)
