Blackthorn

Hamish entered Sanctuary as a simple Mercenary.  His tale is quite long and his deeds are many.  I shall provide some cliff notes for you.

Hamish was a former Slave raised as a Salt Raider, who quickly made a name for himself in both Upper and Lower.  On his second day in sanctuary he managed to uncover a part of the Earth Wheel.  Being put in a terrible position he left the fate of the wheel go to chance which favored the deep gnomes that day.  For this action, he was exiled from Upper and became a fugitive, albeit a rather wealthy one.  His prowess against the Hoard of goblins that had guarded the wheel piece impressed Thomas Alq'vin who gifted Hamish with his shield.

As an outlaw with few allies, Hamish was forced to put aside racial differences.  He found himself a fine group of misfits.  In his early career this group consisted of: Goblins, Kobolds, Lizard Men, Drow, Were-Creatures, Pale Masters and Mercenaries.

As his reputation for ferocity in battle began to grow, he became a person of interest for the Drow Armada.  He was hired by them along side a few others, to build a Mercenary unit that would act as the vanguard for the Armada.  Hamish however had different plans.  He built their Vanguard, but had no intentions for fighting for them.  And so with the help of my dear friends Kauvra, Lupin and Jack --The Hundred Hounds were born.

The Hounds quickly grew in numbers and began their adventures all over the Under Dark. We spent countless hours building up our supplies and preparations for the great battle.  When the War Came to Lower, the Hundred Hounds rallied and repelled the invasion, slaying a great many of the Drow Armada's slaves and warriors.  We then took to the offensive and sailed to Sapphire Island where we crushed their fleet, killed their captains and returned victorious with a ship of our own and a crew to sail it!

Following the War, the Hounds set to claiming the Docks of Lower and Sailing around the Dark Lake.  We had to defend the ship against Big Daves Gang, Spellguard, Watchers and a particularly nasty little fleet of Kobold Pirates that quickly became arch rivals.

When bounties and losses pushed the Hounds out of Lower for a brief time, we took to the dark lake entirely and waged war against the Sahaugin Armies and the Kobold Fleet.

Eventually we returned to lower, where we were forced into a war against the spellguard thanks to their persistent hunts for us.  We rallied with the factions of lower and stood to defend their freedom against the evil Uppers.  Finally though, in the end they got the drop on Card, Haston and Hamish.

Hamish battled them and chased them away, but not before one of them could subdue and capture Card and Haston.  Knowing they were going to die, Hamish challenged the Spellguard Auxillary for their freedom, but it was too late.  Haston had already been executed and Card was next.  Hamish gave everything he had in the final fight against Auxillary Strahd, but in the end he was not victorious.

He fought with all of the power he could muster until he was subdued and taken to Upper to finally face judgement.  After seeing all of his friends die one by one, Hamish knew it was his turn.

In his last moments he thought about all of his dear friends that had been taken from him in this life.  He thought of Twitch, of Gabriel, Kauvra, Phiskan, Thorfinn, Emelia, Wyran, Hamir, Tigersoul, Siliander, Tik-Tik, Ilph, Amber, Sulir, Haston, Rorimac, Sidari, Golgor, Jeb, Sazriar and so many others who had met their ends before him.  He then though of those he was leaving behind.  Of Lupin, Card, Kasi, Zachariah, Tremulous, Rendirk and the many others who had stood beside him.  He knew that the only way any of them would ever have freedom, is if he took his stand.

Hamish awoke in the Freedom Plaza surrounded by onlookers.  The time had come for his tale to end.  As a last request, Hamish was permitted to leave the world the way he entered it.  He stripped himself of all of his clothing and possessions save only for his cursed blade.  Save only for Bloodthirster.

Shouting for Freedom, Hamish took the satisfaction of his death away from the Watchers.  He plunged the wicked blade into his chest and deep into his heart.  The great warrior died there on the ground in Freedom Plaza, a testament to the will of a man who would not be shackled!

His spirit made it's way to the fugue realm, though it did not linger there for very long...  That which is dead may never die.

-------------

It's been a wild ride guys.  This character lasted far longer than he likely should have but I enjoyed every second of it.  Huge thanks to everyone who impacted him and who helped him along the way!  That's it for me for a while.  I promised someone that I would begin my campaign on Elder Scrolls Online when Hamish finally died and the time seems to have come.  I'll be sad to see the Character go and will miss all of the stories of everyone who was closed to him.

I will return with a new character one day and you can count on it.  For now though, it's time for my brief exodus of the server onto something new.  Not leaving with any hard feelings against anyone, but instead will be leaving with many fond memories.  Thank you everyone for such a great time these past few months and I wish everyone well.

Special thanks to the Hundred Hounds who stood by me for as long as we were around and to the DM team for making it such a thrilling experience!

I'll return from time to time when I am able.  Good luck to the Hounds who survived.

Ziya

R.I.P. Hamish.

That was quite the few months.

Ryan

A fantastic guy I enjoyed interweaving (on occasion) with my own character. Good work!

el groso

I'm always a fan of one who makes noise no matter the methods, and this one sure did it, so I applaud you for that.

Blue41

Infuriating, charismatic mercenary who RPed dat WIS score very, very well. The Hounds hold a special place in Shiff's heart, being the first group he swore any sort of oath to, largely in part to Hamish's influence. You did things that I couldn't believe anyone would walk away from, and somehow things turned out alright. Good to see that you couldn't be collared even at the end.

Cat

Only got to meet him twice in pretty brief circumstances, but each time Esmé was pretty scared and intimidated.

Well done.

Nikolaz

o7... Rest well Soldier. It was an honor interacting with you character ; ).

CondorHero

Great job man. Bring tears to my eyes thinking about all the fun time we had late night running quest and fighting around the module.

Looking forward to your next.

Maelstrom

Amazing.

Got him started on Twitch and saw him die on Seivjar. I feel a strange sense of pride at the fact I raised you from newbiehood and you did so well for yourself in earning a reputation, bad or good, with your PC.

Hope to see more from you. Well done mate.

PanamaLane

Awesome job man. From our first interaction on, we had very solid times together. Took a strong character to drag Kasi into the underworld and keep her there of her own volition.

I*HAD*SO*MANY*FCKING*... plans!

<3 that badass guy

Mortui

Through three or four characters I got to interact with Hamish and it was an absolute blast.

I can only hope you come up with something half as good for your next character.

Fucking kudos, Blackthorn.

Gentlemen of the Empire

Had quite a few enjoyable interactions with Hamish and crew while I was playing Farvyn. Definitely a character that had a large impact.

Never gonna be another guy like Hamish. I bet people will still speak of him in the ruins with awe and fear in their voices, for a long while yet. The guy was larger than life from day one. It was a real honour to have watched Hamish struggle and overcome, again and again and again. It was so disheartening seeing the path ahead, only an eternity of the same. I can understand why he was so tired of it all in the last month or so.

I know I've told you before, man, but I'll say it again, I am so F'ing proud of you.

Shit, well done Blackthorn. See you around soon.
