A topic I started on the EFU irc channel is what prompted this post so.....

I have been part of this community for perhaps 3 years.


I was a newb to the D&D way of playing. I got NWN1 free from a manager of mine and hack-n-slashed my way through the original campaign blissfully ignorant of the painstaking details the game revealed about the pen-and-paper game that was formed in the late 70's

Well here I am, saying thank you to not only the DM staff, but the player base that's kept me here and tolerated my endless, and often mindless, questions about this and that.

My respect for the fantasy genre and the realm of D&D in general has exploded exponentially in a positive manner.

While we all may be considered 'dorks' or whatever to the rest of the planet, I have no issue speaking of this group/server/realm with other people I meet.

So, the short version, thanks for welcoming a total idiot to the community and [raises a tankard of Rak's finest] heres to many more years of retarded asinine questions about D&D mechanics!

Actually, that was 20 years ago, when D&D and the like was new, and were considered games played by weird people, associated with hard rock and the like.

My generation has reached adulthood, and with this, this kind of gaming has passed into common games. You'd be surprised how many people know the 'kind of game' we play, even girls.

As an example, the day G. Gyxax died, it was on the 8'o clock news in France, with a whole theme about rpgs..

The 'dorks' today  are the computers addicts. Damn, i'm a dork again!

Core is actually right, but what he did do was make a realm that was easily accessible and interesting to the masses, and that did promote a lot in the rpg scene.

Myself, I learned the nerdy ways at age 9 when I rolled up a Champions character. IMO, the tabletop and interactive gaming was a great promoter of imagination, and imaginative problem solving. These things are non-existant in the computer RPG setting, and it's really too bad. Imagination is the source of innovation. Those who lack it are constrainted by what they percieve, and that is their sad reality.

Keep on keeping it real DJ, have fun. It's what's important.
