It'd be cool if people could make a pickpocket check to try and plant something in someone's inventory.  With a maximum weight limit (10lbs?) to make sure people aren't trying to plant boulders onto people in order to weigh them down for a gank.   But it'd be neat for a criminal to do this to frame someone.

The Machinist

I think this could be a really interesting feature. My only tweak wold be to limit it to 1lb. So its keys, poisons, tiny items etc. you can sneak into someones "pocket".

10lbs seems rather too heavy to me, but the general idea sounds great.

Fosko

Or an exponentially increasing DC with weight? ..the general idea sounds cool to me.

Disco

I dont know. Seem like a hostile action, that would be done In a crowded city. And in that case a DM is needed anyway. Perhaps it is too much work for too little?
But still its a cool idea.

Do like fallout. Pick your mark, steal all their ammo, then plant a bomb on them and wait for the gore.

Blue41

Pickpocketing is already a hostile action. Would make for a neat way to create conflict by foisting off contraband on other PC's- though I guess there's some potential for grief as well.

Talir

A problem here is that there is a message upon receiving the item. So the mark will know. We can add a disclaimer message but it is clunky and much more preferable if they did not know OOC.

The Old Hack

There is also the small fact that certain characters struggle at the limit of their weight allowance. If you plant a 10lbs object on them, they may well be slowed down by the added burden -- how are you supposed to roleplay ignorance of that? o.o

Charnelist

I believe that the encumberance thing is something the planter will have to keep in mind - if planting something encumbers someone, they should know. It should count as a failed plant, since there's no way to hide that.

Also not that viable in PvP, I don't think, unless the 10 pound object in question is small enough to get lost in the inventory I mean either way it just seems strange to me that someone might use encumberance as a PvP weapon by taking hostile action to plant something heavy on someone before initiating a fight - don't we have strength reducing poisons that work just fine through sneak attacks? Faster AND, I daresay, more effective, more efficient, more useful.

Alternatively you could simply ask a DM if they'd be open to running something like that with rolls for you if you have a specific mark in mind.
