Persistent Translation Progress

Some of the translatable objects around the server have really high Lore DCs, in the 50s to 60s. While this is great to ensure that it is difficult to translate it also means that there are only a few means available to actually translate them - and most of them require characters specifically designed and built to get maximum +lore skill and lots of gear or DM loot given to them specifically for the task.

My suggestion is a Translation Kit, like the Mapping Kit. This would create a paper for each object you attempt to translate. If you fail to translate the text but reach a certain threshold with your lore+d20 roll (I am thinking maybe 1/2 the target DC) then you can do a partial translation, recording your progress on the paper. This could be done once per reset and would give a cumulative +1 lore bonus on the next translation attempt of that object.

The idea is that you would keep making small steps, requiring many visits to build up a translation of the object in question. As long as your lore is sufficient enough you can keep building up your lore bonus towards that specific object to eventually crack it and translate it. Maybe it could also set the text of the paper to the full translated text when done? Perhaps it could also add weight to the translation notes as it's built up?

Since it's only doable 1/reset you will need multiple people if you want to work on translating multiple objects in a timely manner. Super-lore bards and wizards who can reach the high DCs can still translate them in a single pass, giving them a desired role in the process when they are available but not locking everyone else out when they are not. Perhaps the translation paper can be traded to other people so multiple people can make quicker progress on translating a single object, again encouraging and rewarding groups who are dedicated to the task.

I think chat logging resolves this issue well enough.
