How about a morningstar called 'The Finer Points of the Law'

zDark Shadowz

Teleportation Crystals

1/day or 3-5 uses, Teleport spell (lvl9)

Teleport configurations would need to be accessible for all classes, or just OUB cleric/sorc/wiz.

Item Name: The Suit
Type: Robe/Suit Model Cloth

Description: This suit is made from the finest Rothe Hair and Gloomwing Silk Available at the various master weaver stalls. The way it feels against your skin can't help but lend you that extra aura of mystique, confidence, and sauve. What can you say? You Love the Suit!

Stats: +1 charisma. Male Only.

Probably found in a shop somewhere.

this is a great suggestion and I'm seconding it

putrid_plum

I don't have an exact example but some monk only kamas perhaps would be appealing, monk fists are 1d10 or 1d8 depending on size both far better than a kama and even more with the many gloves.

Monk Kama
+1d4 piercing (or elemental types depending on variant)
+1d4 massive crits
-1 damage

Hollow_Mage

Tonfa (Kama)
OUB: Monk, Fighter
Extra Damage Type: Bludgeoning
-2 Damage
Parry +3

This is a sturdy wooden bar with a leather-wrapped grip at the halfway point, perfect for deflecting blows.

Sem

An item that when activated, temporarily (or permanently) disables all light source effects on your person. Including spells, items, weapons.

Perhaps a Shadow artifact, "Embrace of the Night Maiden" ?

ADarkDaysKnight

Acid-boiled Scimitar
Scimitar
OUB Chaotic
-2 damage, +1d4 acid damage
+3 tumble, +3 taunt
Acid visual effect

*A scimitar claimed from the viscous gullet of an intelligent slime. It has been magically enchanted from it's time in the creatures mass, and acid drips freely from the blade. A single leather glove has melded to the blade's grip, making it impossible to wield without first putting the glove on.
Part of an item set, cannot be wielded without the matching gloves.

Slime-burned Glove
Gloves
OUB Chaotic
50% acid immunity, -1 dex

*One half of a pair of thick leather gloves specially designed to excavate devoured items from the many huge slimes that lurk about the flooded Dunwarren. This lone glove, having long lost its mate, has been burned by acid and has melted around the half of a scimitar.
Part of an item set, cannot be worn without the matching scimitar.

Castle_of_Moonlight

Broken Longsword:
Dagger
-2 damage

Broken longswords are usually found in wreckages and battlegrounds, and while their blades are dulled and broken beyond all repair, in a pinch this trash could still be used to stab someone or something.

Dwarven Metal Quarterstaff:
Low light
+1 bludgeoning
+3 Discipline
-5 Hide

A long metal weapon covered in dents that shines in the darkness making it easier to see but also harder to hide. It seems it was crafted by the dwarves to help even those with bad eyesight fight within the darkness.

Umberhulk fist on a stick:
Base time: Warhammer
+2 will
+2 acid damage
10% Acid vulnerability

A massive Umberhulk arm that is impaled with a stick to make a very bizarre great hammer. Acidic aberration blood still slowly drips from the arm, causing those to get hit to get splattered with the damaging stuff, but the blood also travels down the stick and often gets on the wielder as well burning their hands and melting armor as they continue to use it.
It's not about how long they'll survive, but how long they'll be remembered.

Ambient loot books with tutorials on ciphers, scaling in rarity with the complexity of the cipher that is being tutorialized.

EDIT: Specifically, cipher types already employed IG would be hinted at through these ambient primers.

Howlando

As some of you know, I am in the midst of overhauling the loot tables for EFU.

Unfortunately, this thread is fairly useless.

Suggestions for loot that is somewhere on the edge between useful and useless, loot with an interesting flair but isn't DM loot quality, loot that doesn't require specialized scripting, loot that has a little personality and a nice description is what I'm after.

Some examples:

"Courage Dolly", misc small doll item
This small dolly has the word "COURAGE" stitched on the back. Giving it a little squeeze does indeed seem to be helpful in a truly terrifying situation.
Remove Fear 1/use

Oak Staff of the Hedge Wizard
Quarterstaff
Bonus feats: ambidexterity/TWF
Bonus spell slot: wizard 1
expeditious retreat 1/day
+1 hide, +2 lore, +2 spellcraft
A solid traveler's staff of oak, sturdy and strong. It is well suited for a wandering Hedge Wizard or other such mage of the roads. A faithful companion indeed to any Mage who would explore the realms...

Lost Spearman's Spirit Spike
Spear
1 Charge Use Summon Creature 1 (Garagos/Tempus Spirit Warrior Theme), 5 Charges
+ 1 Piercing Damage, +2 saves vs. fear
This spear once belonged to a mighty soldier. It is a serviceable weapon, and might also be induced to invite the Spirit of the one who wielded it before to join you in glorious battle...

Tattered Wayfarer's Cloak
5% Cold Immunity, +1 saves vs. cold/death, +1 skill AE/Discipline/Heal/Hide/Lore/MS/Search/Tumble
Special: works as bedroll
A tattered old cloak of some old wayfarer, bringing with it a bit of past experience that comes from life on the road.

The cloak, although threadbare, is warm and can be used as a serviceable bedroll in a pinch.

Northman's Old Claymore
+1 Slashing, +1d4 Massive Criticals, +2 saves vs. cold/fear
This old claymore is a serviceable weapon for any wanderer of the cold north.

Monstrous Champion's Shrunken Wizard Head Totem
Misc Medium Head item, 9 charges, 2 charges/use fox's/lesser dispel/magic missile (5), 3 charges/use ghostly visage.
Various runic markings decorate the shrunken head of this unfortunate wizardly victim, now it has been used as a source of power by some monstrous champion.

Etc.

d1n4l9q7

Severed Ghouls Hand
This is the hand of a foul ghoul cleaved off in battle. It has a slight putrid odor and seems to still contain some dark energy as the fingers move from time to time.

OUB: Evil
Ghoul Touch: 1 charge per use, 5 charges.

Night's Helmet
This black helmet is hard to spot in the dark caverns of the Underdark. Perhaps it was lost by its former owner as it still seems to carry some magical energy.

+2 Hide
Darkness: 2 charges per use, 7 charges.

Flute of the Fruit fly
This strange flute decorated by dried apple seeds smells like overripe apples. When played it emits no sound but a discharge of magical energy calls forth its sacred guardians, the perky fruit fly.

OUB: Chaotic
Summon Creature 1(Insects): 1 charge per use, 10 charges

zDark Shadowz

Animatronic Action Figure 1/8 - Quickfoot

The first and only figurine in a toy range developed by one of the Senior Animators' more energetic apprentices. The figurine proved too dangerous for children and was consequently discontinued due to leg injuries and product return claims when the toy self-destructed if it ran out of power. The rare toys that remain now are those that were kept in their boxes, left unpainted.

Summon I (5) 1/charge use, Law domain theme, only contains 1 charge

Possibly additional: Can be recharged with baublium instead of letting it run out.

zDark Shadowz

Crowbar, Improved.

Just like a regular crowbar, but improved.

Single Use / Knock
Unique Power / crowbar.

-----

That rock in your shoe.

A small pebble that was actually found lodged in your shoe. You have an urge to pass it off as something you found in the field while foraging to your companions the next time you need to empty your pack of your findings.

(Does nothing)

zDark Shadowz

Witches' Broom, Lesser
Misc Item: Large

Although not as powerful as a proper witches' broom which would have one flying about, cackling madly and lobbing rotten fruit at people from above, this broom is nevertheless able to glide through the air briefly a few times a day. Try not to fall off!

Hat sold separately.

Potion of Levitation powers 3/day.
OUB: Sorcerer/Wizard

-----

Holy Scabbard
Misc Item: Large

A rich brown, leather scabbard that seems to stretch to accomodate any paladins' weapon, a motif of a lion and a dragon, representing the deities Torm and Bahamut respectively, twines itself around the outside in gold and silver flakes.

Bless Weapon 1/day
OUB: Paladin

-----

Malfunctioning Clock
Misc Item: Medium

You can hear this clock ticking quietly, but the hands don't appear to move. When you try to force the hands, time seems to bend and warp around you...

5 charges
Expeditious Retreat 1/charge
Haste/Slow 3 charges

-----

Every single war paint that was in Herbalism :P alchemy/herbalism had plenty of ambient loot scattered in it.

-----

Goblet of Life, Minor
Misc Item: Medium

You're not sure why, but when you drink water from this goblet, you feel a little more hale and hearty. A peasant would probably mistake this goblet as granting eternal life.

3/day Virtue

-----

The Sergeants' Orders
Misc Item: Medium

A set of documents with simple instructions written upon them. When reading off these instructions to someone, they are more inclined to acquiesce to your request.

2/day Command

-----

Palette of a Thousand Hues
Misc Item: Medium

It appears someone has painstakingly gone through a lot of effort to collect various luminous pigments and resins. With a little application and some artistic flair, you feel like you could paint anytime, anywhere.

Unique Property: Makes people or objects glow a random colour for a few minutes.

-----

Dreamcatcher, Enhanced
Misc Item: Medium

Made by more than one housewife in the Vaults, these are hung over their childrens' beds in an attempt to capture all the scary night terrors that assail them. This one, however, seems to have been made using some unique materials, and does actually seem to be able to assist one in escaping nightmares.

1/day Rouse

-----

The Magicians' Dove
Misc Item: Small

A small white dove that appears to be just stuffed toy. The head can be twisted off, but once placed back on the toy it animates into an actual dove.

Unique Property: Creates a white dove summon Single Use.

-----

Pixie in a Bottle
Misc Item: Thin
This appears to be a bottle with a pixie trapped within. A clever mage might be able to convince her to become their familiar, or you could otherwise release her into the wilds, though it doesn't look like she'll survive much longer.

If used by a wizard or a sorcerer, roll a persuade/spellcraft check to have their familiar changed to a pixie. On fail, or if used by anyone else, the pixie is simply released.

Removed on reset/disappating effect.

-----

Fragrant Bandage
Misc Item: Small

This small set of bandages appears to have been laced with bluecap ointment and fragrant fungus, and appears to be a very effective way to bind and treat wounds.

Cure Light Wounds (5) 1/day

-----

Magician's Gloves
Base Item: Gauntlets

A set of pure white gloves, it's easy to distract and mesmerize an audience during an act when their attention can easily become fixed upon these gloves. The greatest trick is when ones attention is fully focused upon the gloves, then with a sudden clap both them and the magician vanish out of sight.

+X Perform/Spellcraft
Bonus Spell Slots: Wizard 1, Bard 1
Invisibility: 1/day

Black_TopHat

Goblin Worg-Hide Armor
Base Item: Hide Armor
Worgs serve an important purpose in goblin tribes. Being fierce mounts, skilled guard dogs and excellent trackers they are vital to survival of goblin tribes lucky enough to contain them. Even in death are the Worgs used by the tribal humanoids. Poorly cured and stitched, this suit of armor seems to be sewn together from an unfortunate Worg. While ugly, the thick fur and skin, combined with the natural smell of the beast can trick other animals
+2 Animal Empathy
+1 Hide
-2 Persuade

Salvaged Goblin Chest-Plate
Base Item: Breastplate
Battered and bent into shape, this small cuirass seems to have been cut from a larger suit of armor. Too small to fit most demi-human or humanoid races, the steel is still sturdy and servicable enough for the smaller ones. It is still very cumbersome and loud however, as parts seem nailed and bolted together.
OUB:
Goblinoid
Halfling
Gnome
+1 AC Slashing
+1 AC Piercing
-2 Move silently
-2 Tumble

Rusty Goblin Ring-Mail
Base Item: Chainshirt
Ring-Mail armor, rings of iron or steel sewn into a leather backing, is common all over the Realms. The goblin race is no different. Not known as skilled craftsmen, their suits are a patchwork of other hauberks and shirts salvaged from friend and foe alike. This suit alone shows the sign of at least three different races or nations.  Despite the rust and its filthy state, it is still capable armor
+1 AC vs Slashing
-1 vs Disease
-2 Persuade

Goblin Leper Rags
Base Item: Clothing
The life of a Goblin Leper is a short one, even by the standards of their wretched race. Soaked with filth, caked in old blood and reeking of an unwashed goblin, these rags, a soiled yellow, mark the wearer as a Goblin leper. A pariah of the tribe it is the duty of all lepers to join colonies of other afflicted goblins. If the goblin who once wore these rags ever made it to his destination is doubtful, they seem to hold the memory of a deperate scrabble.
+3 vs Disease
+2 vs Poison
Expeditious Retreat 3 charges
-1 CHA

Goblin Veterans Chainmail
Base Item: Splint Mail
To survive as a warrior in a goblin tribe requires a combination of cunning, cowardice, and plain luck. The veterans of the tribe understand to wear cumbersome plate greaves or the like will only slow them down in the case of a hasty retreat. As such, most of the protection is centered on the torso, leaving the legs free and unencumbered to chase or flee from an enemy. Impressive pauldrons and shoulderpads display their status to lesser warriors in the tribe to make up for the lack-luster leg armor.
+2 Intimidate
-1 AC Slashing
+2 Tumble

Stolen Goblin War Plate
Base Item: Full Plate
This harness at one point may have been an impressive piece of craftsmanship. Or, at least, parts of it were. A greave of orog make here, a duergar gauntlet there, a gorget of some drow house... most of these pieces were obviously robbed from a battlefield. Combined with goblin craftsmanship to shore up the gaps, it provides a sad sort of protection, though sturdy enough for its goblin wearer.
-1 AC
-2 Move Silenty
-2 Persuade

Goblin Rat-Scale Armor
Base Item: Studded Leather
Rats are an important food source for goblin tribes, especially those near the ruined metropolis of Dunwarren. Industrious, the skins of the rat are used in all sorts of clothing and tools. Easily produced, these suits of armor are common amongst novice warriors or hunters of the tribe. With the rat hide cut and cured into strips, it is bolted together with old nails to form a sort of scale like armor. While not as sturdy as similiar suits of armor made of metal, it suits its purpose.
+1 Hide
+1  Move Silently
-2 Animal Empathy

Goblin Archer's Jerkin
Base Item: Leather Armor
This leather jack is made of poorly cured rothe and rat, and reeks of goblin. Used by the tribes archers and skirmishers they are usually the first to spot a foe and the first to flee should the battle be going poorly.
+2 Spot
+1 Tumble

Goblin Tribal Shield
Base Item: Large Shield
This large shield bares the markings of a primitive goblin tribe. Skins and furs are stretched over the zurkhwood face of the shield, encouraging the weilder to stand their ground through guttural runes and symbols. The fact that this heavy shield would prevent the bearer from fleeing as quickly as his companions is unmentioned.
+2 vs Fear Saves
-2 Tumble

Goblin Trooper's Sledge-Hammer
Base Item: Warhammer
Goblin Warriors are a fractured and unorganized lot. Tactics usually consist of charging and attempting to overwhlem with numbers alone. A goblin who lives long enough to learn more complex battle techniques is a rarity. Marching off to battle, they adopt easily repaired or replaced weapons such as axes and hammers to finish off those weakened by their more reckless kin. This hammer was once used by one, crude yet effective, like the troopers who weild them.
+1 Bludgeoning Damage
+1 Attack Bonus v Goblin/Dwarf/Reptilian

Goblin Morningstar
Base Item: Morningstar
The morningstar is a simple weapon, and the goblins are a simple race. Easily cobbled together out of scrap and near worthless iron these weapons are found all over. Tossed aside by more skilled warriors these weapons are still used by youngbloods and novices amongst the clans.
-1 Attack Bonus
+1 Piercing Damage

Goblin "Halberd"
Base Item: Battle-Axe
Wielded by the savage humanoids like a an average man would a halberd, this battle axe at one point in its life was a Halberd of some sort. Too long and heavy to be used effectivly by Goblins they have cut the shaft off nearly to the head of the weapon. Still, the wide headed blade can provide some sort of protection if not unbalanced
+1 Deflection AC
-1 Attack Bonus

Goblin Chain Gauntlets
Base Item: Gauntlets
These shoddy gauntlets are not made of mail, but instead, have chains wrapped around them. A goblin warrior would chain his weapon to his hands to make sure it would not slip out in the heat of combat. The fact that it prevented many warriors from losing their weapons in a retreat is considered an added bonus.
+2 Discpline

Goblin Girdle
Base Item: Belt
This poorly made belt has all sorts of odds and ends tied to it, once belonging to a goblin veteran. Handfuls of broken glass, twisted nails, and sharp rocks fill some pouches, as well as moldy spores. Best used to conceal an advance or cover a retreat this belt can provide the dirty tricks goblins are infamous for.
Choking Power 2 Uses
Caltrop 1 Use
+1 vs Poison
