Remove Max Number Quest Limits

Because a maximum number for quests has always been an awkward limitation on our quest system. If people want to bring more than 6, 8, let them! If people want to bring a friggin army to defend the Dunwarren Staircase, I say, let them!

The maximum quest number has always been a bane on Good RP, and GOOD fun. You want to involve as many people as possible, ideally, and roll with the punches and consequences of such actions. I believe this would be a positive change.

Minimum number of people makes sense.

Maximum quest limitations are there for mechanical reasons. The quests are fundamentally shaped by the player levels that enter them. Number and Meanness of Monsters and loot levels are generated from the level expectations. You cant drop the cap, you cant. Quests will either not scale correctly, or won't be able to create the quests challenge appropriately. Then you have the whole... if the entire server enters 1 quest, then the server elsewhere is 100% dead for anyone else that comes online. And of course the EXP farming that would skyrocket in popularity.

If you have a massive group ready and rearing to hit something, get a DM involved and see if you can make it interesting. They CAN waive these requirements.

I already suggested they be removed, at the very least on the lower level quests for this who die repeatedly and must do them over and over.

The simple fact is there aren't enough quests around unfortunately and if you start capping them people will find less and less reason to get online and so will create a new character or play another server.

If not remove all the caps, they definitely remove the lower level ones please.

I might be mistaken, but...

Thomas is suggesting that the maximum number of people that can go on a quest be removed. Not, the maximum number of times that a quest could be done. ex: Attacking kobolds in the mines has a maximum of 6 players' characters who can attend simultaneously. Unless I'm entirely off-track, thomas is requesting that any number of people should be able to attend so that no one would need to be left behind simply due to an artificial limitation.

This would create some amazing headaches when it comes to scaling in quite many quests, and just isn't sensible. There is a point where no amount of normal monsters would ever match up to a group of players, and at that point if we'd work to introduce scaling strengths in variety that I see is required, what happens if that group is not quite up to bar. They will be absolutely overwhelmed with the power and numbers, forcing a party wipe and quitting the quest.

We can match numbers, but nwn, especially efu, has greater variety than just numbers. It would be a workload that is simply not worth placing on top of any list. Party limits and such are these for balance purposes, at times as a mean of progression from low to higher level "content" or challenges, but also to sometimes create a group where size won't overcome the individual and RP is still much more likely to occur. I rarely see any great many people to have chances in really shining or voicing their thoughts in group of dozen or more for example. There's one or two that really at all pop up.

Nwn does not have a very good system to go to those lengths and it would just force us to focus reworking current quest system and quests, instead of pushing in new ones and things we want to add, on top of already doing many things that people ask and seem to require in order for daily stuff to go about nicely.

It does not work well, and it is not worth it in many cases.
