First, I pray this letter finds you in good health, and that the Well may soon again witness peace between the Fourth Legion and the Cinquefoil Rose. The Ignis Vitae Medical Center - staffed by myself, Hakem Tariq of the Twindari and Waterbearer Barov of B'aara - remains open to the Fourth. It was ever our founding proposal to provide a place for the janissaries to recover, rather than waste away on the floor of the Krak des Roses. I pray you will consider allowing your men to rest and recover there, as we have tended frequently to their wounds with care. Politics and disputes among the Accord will never interrupt the fact that they are welcome in our hospital.

Second, I present to you a petition, signed by 34 Voiced or Accorded citizens so far. I wish to be courteous to you and present you with the petition in advance, and ask that you give it some consideration.

We call for a fair and public trial to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Balestriere Emilia Laurentis. The need for public accountability is paramount to maintain trust in our institutions and to ensure that justice is served transparently. This is to the benefit of all parties: the Rose, the Fourth Legion, and the people of Ephia's Well.

We are aware that a court-martial has been proposed to address this matter. Court-martials are generally private investigations and trials conducted behind closed doors. A private trial will not sufficiently address the community's concerns or dispel doubts about the fairness of the proceedings, concerns that began with the oversight of Magistrate Presmir.

If the Fourth Legion and its members acted within the confines of the law, a public trial would confirm this and alleviate any concerns. The Fourth Legion must be as accountable to the legal system as the people for whom it enforces the laws.
