Letter to Legate Argent Argyris

To Legate Argent Argyris,

I write hoping to speak on a matter I believe will benefit all the Well. I have had the opportunity to speak with Legate Marcellus on the matter, as well as a few of the leaders among the Accord, and have received positive responses from each thus far with a few left to speak to.

If you have the time, I would like to speak with you on this matter as well. I desire to be more involved in tending to the health of Ephia's Well, and share with you below a draft of my proposal to do so.

My proposal:

I seek to establish a public Hospital for Ephia's Well, and ask for your support, advice, or to hear your concerns. The Hospital would have the following goals:

To provide medical care and proper medical beds to those wounded in war, to Janissaries, and to those who live within Ephia's Well.

Second, to provide medical care and quarantine for future diseases and plagues.

Third, to provide medical training and become a place of medical learning, hopefully in cooperation with Sandstone College or more.

Four, to address the public health of Ephia's Well at large: prepare for eventual outbreaks, research and store medical knowledge regarding the local drugs, etc.

Until such time as the Hospital can be built, a clinic within Ephia's Well would be maintained on an interim basis. This would allow for the relocation of wounded Janissaries and war veterans currently left on the streets and the floor of the Krak des Roses.

To clarify, what distinguishes this from the House of Healing in the Tablet. The House of Healing serves the poorest, most disenfranchised of the Well. Refugees, Voiceless, the Tablet. I believe it is of limited usefulness to the average citizen or resident of the Well.

Due to the current limitations of the Stele, funding is likely to be a tricky matter even with the support of the government, however, I believe that a solution can be found. The interim clinic will not require as much funding, and I am prepared to dedicate my personal funds and donations to the effort, but the Hospital itself would require some problem-solving as to how to receive government funding if offered. As I understand it, the Stele cannot currently pay entities beyond the Accord, leading to situations such as the delay in the Hope's funding. Let the interim clinic stand as a temporary measure, until the Hospital can be figured out. The Janissaries and war veterans still recovering from battle deserve better.

The healer goes to great pains to reign in their inclination to write in "doctor chicken scratch". The writing is mostly neat, though penned by a tired hand.

Thank you for your support, Legate! I am encouraged by it. The response from within the Accord has thus far been positive as well. Thank you, as well, for seeing that the donation to Hasheema's Hope came to completion.

I will consider reaching out to you should funding be needed once plans have been settled. I hope to handle as much of the costs myself as possible, as I have done with the refugee shelter/clinic in the Tablet.

I intend to keep the clinic-to-Hospital free of religious attachment, whether of B'aara, the Wheel, or my own Sages. What would be of paramount importance is that the people of Ephia's Well are properly cared for with expertise, whether that expertise be mundane or of some divinity of whatever source they prefer.

All the same, due to my faith, I am concerned about opposition to the concept of a healing house within the Well's walls that is not tied to the Wheel. My faith ever faces the possibility of hostility or even becoming illegal, a situation I am frequently warned has happened in the past. I want to mitigate such issues for the good of the Well.

A letter quickly written, sent to each of the offices of the Legates.

Well - wow. Thank you both. I got the news last night, and this makes my work easier.

I take my work quite seriously, so please let me know what expectations you might have of me. Otherwise, I will do my best not to make a headache for anyone as I go about my work. And I will move ahead with at least the interim clinic, in the hopes that someday the Hospital might take shape. I should be able to afford the clinic on my own, not looking to dig in to the Well's pockets.

Know that I am reaching out to Hakem Tariq to make sure the work is agreeable to his faith.
