[A simple note finds its way beneath the door of the recipient's suite.]

Dearest Akna,

Congratulations to you on your new position! I know that you will serve as an excellent Prelate.

I must apologize for my absence from the day-to-day happenings of the Well; I have been busy with various Scribe duties during the day and focused on reading my novel in the evenings. (It is about a group of people, all suffering from the same magical condition, who are traveling to a coastal gated city in search of answers. They have various misadventures along the way, too. I did not expect it to take this long for me to finish the story, but I suppose I am a slow reader.)

I cannot yet say that I will be making regular appearances about the Well, but I hope to find some time in the coming days to see and be seen. Perhaps we can catch up then? I do miss your company and our conversations, and I hope that our schedules align for such. I know you must be busy with your newfound duties, though, so I understand if such cannot be.

Regardless, I hope that you are doing well, and I am immensely glad for your success.

Yours truly,

Emiliana

Emiliana,

Your letter is a very great joy to me. I too have missed spending time with you, though Bashir assured me you were just busy in the stacks.

Do not be too swift to congratulate me. Much has happened in a short time, and I find that alongside hope for the future I have also regrets. It is not useful to focus on these, however, so I move forward as best as I am able. I am confident we can make progress, and there are many who are open to this also. They offer much encouragement, and through this there is always a way forward.

Do not take any of this to be depressing. I am glad to be where I am, with the ability to contribute, rather than fret from a distance as would otherwise be my nature.

This book seems full of wonders, and I encourage you to take your time with it. (It sounds like the best I have heard of all year!) Such simple joys are good. They remind us that we can have a home, rather than a place where we simply survive. I am certain that time will available for us to catch up when you are able, and if it is not I will make it so.

Thank you for writing me. I will be here whenever you again have time.
