[Text version]
[hide]Honored Sergeant Rennik Colmes,

It has been a pleasure to observe your work with the recent unpleasant events befalling Ephia's Well. I believe there would be merit in collaboration on these matters. My active participation will undoubtedly illuminate new information and unique perspectives.

I expect that the investigation of Legate John Syter's murder will be ongoing for quite some time, rendering a set fee for my services less efficient. Should the Fourth Legion see fit to engage with my services, a continuous retainer similar to the standard Jannisary wage would be fitting. Somewhere between ten to fifteen dinar an hour would suffice.

If, instead, you are required to directly hire me from your personal savings, we must negotiate a fair price in person. To do so with distant ink would be unkind to the dinar and its owner.

Whether I will be working for the Legion or for you, I feel it would be wise to have an official document to enable my efforts. There will be times when I am gathering information in solitary fashion and I do not wish to be denied the opportunity due to a lack of authority.

I am most agreeable in discussing terms, requirements, limitations and methodology of my involvement. I greatly anticipate the chance to specify every component of the arrangement with yourself and/or your superiors.

Fare thee as well as I fare,

Daoud al-Maaz
