The Futility of Archaeology
Why Looking to the Past is a Waste of Time and Resources
by Estellise Azimi

Introduction:
Archaeology is a field that has been around since well before Ringfall, with scholars dedicating their time and resources to uncovering relics of ancient civilizations. The purpose of this pursuit is to understand the past and learn from it. However, archaeology is a futile pursuit, as the past offers no answers to the challenges we face in the present and the future. The civilizations of the past have all failed for a reason, and we must look to the future to find solutions to our problems. Archaeology is a waste of time and resources and it is necessary that scholars instead shift in focus toward the future.

The Failure of the Past:
The civilizations of the past have all failed for a reason. They were unable to adapt to the changing world around them and eventually crumbled. The rise and fall of these civilizations are nothing but cautionary tales, with no relevance to our current situations of ash storms and desertification. While it is important to acknowledge and understand the past, it is equally important to recognize that it has nothing to offer us in terms of solutions to our current problems. The focus on the past can distract us from the real issues at hand, and prevent us from finding the solutions we need.

The Guesswork of Archaeology:
Archaeology is largely based on guesswork. We dig up relics and artifacts and then try to piece together a narrative of what happened in the past. However, this is an inherently flawed process. We can never truly know what happened in the past, and any narrative we construct is based on assumptions and guesses. Therefore, archaeology is nothing but a novelty, with no practical value, beyond diversion.

Looking to the Future:
The world is changing at an unprecedented pace, with these past ten years seeing more drastic changes than hundreds of years prior, and we must adapt to keep up. We cannot rely on the past to guide us, as the past has nothing to offer beyond diverting tales of ancient peoples and places. Therefore, we must look to the future. We must invest our time and resources in fields that have practical value, such as mathematics, sciences, and the discovery of new technologies. By doing so, we can ensure that we are prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.

Conclusion:
For centuries, scholars have dedicated themselves to the field of archaeology, delving into the remnants of past civilizations. Despite this long-standing tradition, archaeology provides us with no answers to the challenges we face in the present and future. History has shown that civilizations of the past have all eventually failed, and unless we wish to see our own civilization here on the Disc follow these numerous dead civilizations, we must focus on the future and find solutions to our problems. We should turn our attention and resources to ensuring a prosperous future, rather than wasting time and money on the guesswork of archaeology.
