The Rant Thread

After reading this thread I thought maybe it would be better for us to have one thread where we can just bitch at whatever particular odd multiclass, build or whatever we don't like. Our individual "Fighter/Barb Frowning". Get it out of our system and maybe get people thinking twice about running it. No counter-arguments, no responses, No long back and forths. Just One Rant Per Person. I'll go first

"Tone deaf" Fighter/Bards. Characters in fullplate that take the obligatory 12 CH and 3 bard levels for +2 Damage Bardsong, Taunt, UMD divine wands and perfect success on arcane items. And then never cast a spell or do anything bardic. Or they join Lawful factions.

I can understand using Bard as "Inspirational leader" if you don't want to app for Knight, but it unlocks a lot of stuff that gives a Fighter an edge in PVP/bossfights, and I see Bard as one of those classes that comes with a certain RP requirement, like Divine classes. Multiclass rogue, sure, rogues can be anything. Bards need the entertainment value.

The ones that stick in my mind (de Olid, Coronado) were good, well RPed characters that did pull off the combo with some style, but were in my view, overshadowed by what I saw as powerbuildy use of Bard. On the other hand, Olive Delaquer was a clear case of the Awesome, being an effective combat type but backing it up with some really good artist RP that supported Being A Bard.

If you ever saw my (now pretty much retired) char Donovan Halley, he was made as a joke between me and Equinox. There were a lot of rapier/Imp Expertise builds turning up, and I never liked Bard/Fighters much. So I told him I'd combine them both :D.  That said, I did enjoy playing him, and I ran 4 Bard (for the L2 spell) and actually RPed the bardic stuff a lot.

Lord knows everyone needs to rant once in a while. However, these types of rants also have the sad side effect of making people seem elitist, which is definitely not desired. Leave it to us to decide what is and is not appropriate and go rant in IRC instead. Thank you.
