Yank Pack suggestions

I had an idea that yanking someone's pack should take several rounds to complete, during which the player doing the yank would be flat footed with lowered AC and AB similar to taking off a ring of sanctuary. It should also display text [Begins yanking such'nsuch's pack]. If the player is interrupted or moves before the yank timer is complete then the yank fails and nothing is taken.

The idea is to prevent instantly hoovering up a fallen pc's loot the second they die, making it more of a post combat activity. It would also be something that everyone is aware of since it would be in the chat log.

I think this is a good idea, though I think it only makes sense for stealing what's in their inventory (As far as announcing it to everyone, but no 'flat footness'). If you want to dry loot their attire then that should take a few seconds and should leave you relatively defenseless as well as announcing it to everyone in the area.

Of course, this might just lead to players just gathering the corpse and running off (If they can) in which case, I think there should be an announcement when a player picks up another player's corpse.

In light of recent events, I wouldn't mind seeing some hefty weight added onto packs and skill minuses as well, particularly to hide and move silently. Taking packs should be something that happens only explicitly after a conflict has been over, resolved, and relevant corpses cleared off the field.

Just dropping in to register my support for this idea.

I agree that yanking an entire pack to take a great amount of items from it shouldn't be something that happens easily and quickly. But "yanking" a pack to take a specific item sorta should.

I put "yanking" in quotation marks in the second instance because while a) tearing off a pack and rummaging through it and b) simply opening it to take a single item are two vastly different actions, in terms of mechanics and the game engine, they currently force the same motions.

Yanking a pack does already make you flatfooted, and the different types have different durations. It is quicker to yank only a persons coinpurse, a little bit longer to yank their readily equipped items, longer to yank their whole pack and I think the same time to yank both their pack and their equipped items.

I have not personally seen situations of people ripping packs like they were loot bags from dead quest monsters but have seen situations where DMs would have to pause the server after a pvp and ask who took whose pack. Having it automatically post an emote like happens when certain items are used would be a plausible suggestion to help clarify confusions and deter secretive PC looting when people use lack of emote as a substitute for thief mode.
