The Barony

While there's mountains of jokes over the years about the longevity of my PCs being a week or two, the Barony is an experiment in attempting to focus on a longer term PC with a more expanded view of EFU and how to handle things.

From top to bottom I'm trying a lot of new plot ideas, character devices, and scope of focus to tell a different type of story than my usual.

This is not an RwG approach of  "Show up, on day 2 make some crazy demands, throw together an undertaking, get involved in hijinks, die, quit and make something new" 

My interest in EFU has always been PC Factions and primarily the ability for PCs to craft their own fun, their own plots, and their own undertakings in an attempt to tell stories and find interesting outlets on EFU.

So, at it's very core the idea of the Barony is the idea of patronage both ICly and in terms of PC faction and plot development.

Patronage is the support, encouragement, privilege, or financial aid that an organization or individual bestows to another. In the history of art, arts patronage refers to the support that kings, popes, and the wealthy have provided to artists such as musicians, painters, and sculptors.

In this instance however the pursuit isn't just of IC supporting artists but of PC Plots and Factions.

A few recent examples

- Mercenary Company hired for a long term contract, allowing for some fun RP of multi-day negotiations of contract, planning for long term endeavors, and otherwise enterprise from a wealthy figure.

- An Elven PC's efforts to see their character change their lot in life having escaped centuries of slavery and hoping to find new purpose without elven gods or knowing anything of elven culture.

- A deranged Wizard's bid for power which spectacularly blew up in my face.

While my PC has his own plots, agendas, and pursuits which I'm glad if anyone wants to get involved with in the traditional PC Faction pursuit

If you've ever wanted to try building a PC faction of your own and want a bit of a safety net for your first try, if you've ever wanted to get in on the ground floor of some of my antics with a more long term pursuit, or if your'e looking for a more classic  "Noble House PC Faction" experience there's a lot of opportunities.

Basic outlined tenants of the House:

   
• The exploration of the Underdark and our ruined world, in search of fortune, amazing sights, and high adventure

   
• One man's hyper-selfish pursuit of using his fortunes in breaking "The Curse" through various potential avenues

   
• The hunt, study, and pursuit of the Chosen of Dunwarren and studying the curse of Lycanthropy

   
• Either a jumping off point for PC factions to begin as part of our effort before breaking off to do their own thing or remaining to expand and grow the scope of the faction

   
• Patronage of EFUSS skilled/Conceptual figures - Artists, Tailors, Stoneworkers, Merchants, Archaeologists, Bards portraying their bardic talents in different light, Monks studying philsophical disciplines, etc.
  
  Sometimes my favorite RP has been people flexing these ideas so if instead of some adventurer or something you would like to make a "House Cook" with max EFUSS COOKING or a "Groundskeeper" with Animal Empathy and EFUSS FARMING  or any other type roles of a noble house from your favorite entertainment sources I'm totally open to the idea and would be glad to help see that story told.

Ranks:

Abettor - This is the standard rank of the Faction and any PC who has interest in either helping out an aspect or dipping their toe in the pool can find place. Think of it as a big umbrella where PCs can do as much or as little as they like while being still involved.

Retainer - I've never tried this in a PC faction but I'd be very interested if any PCs are interested in taking a larger role in things to either help push current agendas or cultivate your own, wave our banner, and push things further.

For you folks around long enough from EFUM: think of it like Aberdenn/Caermyn where anyone can join but it needed an App to become a higher ranking retainer.

For newcomers to EFUR Think of this as an attempt at making a PC version of the Exile Collective or SG.

Abettor is the base rank and if you want more involvement, reach for Sergeant of the Watch, Agent, or Knight of the New Path style goals of not only helping push an agenda but also taking on a larger role in things like recruitment, objective pursuits, and representation of the Faction.

Anyone can join and get involved as you like as an Abettor but if you're interested or dedicated to the cause, instead of sending a "Retainer application" to the DMs or anything like that we can hash out a cool PC deed you can perform to essentially receive the same kind of representation and support that a DM Faction Application - More status, efforts to get you some kickass equipment, able to aid in recruitment or changing the faction to meet your individual PC's agenda, etc.

Only in this instance it's for a PC faction and you would get more Official presence, more ties to the Faction, larger support, more responsibilities, etc.

Haven't updated in a while since things were going quite well off of purely IC involvement.

However-

While we certainly aren't lacking for help one thing I'd like to try and imrpove upon after talking to a few PCs is trading on EFU.

Right now the climate's primed for a lot of fast and loose shady dealings and in the past there's been a ton of great merchant PCs that weren't able to get much traction.

For instance, Kinslayer once made a Bone Warden PC who rather than animating the dead just wanted to open a shop in the HOT, using purely perk mechanics to turn it into coin.

While EFU has improved a lot over the years one of the worst things about trading is how it so often just boils down to

"Hey I want that sword"

"500?

"No, i'll give you 400".

PCs who want to make legitimate, weird, goofy, or dangerous merchants- You can find a platform at the Trade Hall.

Be it a PC of yours who catches fish and opens up a fish stall to rival old man pockets, or Dave's Corpse Wagon for all your shady needs, Priests of goodly (or gnomish gods) trying to buy conversions or sell literature, or devil cultists just wanting to buy souls.

Basically rather than people trying to hunt for the Bazaar of the Bizzare random, I'd like to bring that on home to Dunwarren.

There's a lot of great potential conflict as the city destabalizes for PCs of all factions, all sides, and etc trying to just earn a bit of gold or have some fun RP.

People who want to get more invovled we could easily have a number of "Trader" PCs apprenticing/etc tending shop.

People who want to stir up shit could try and stymie less savory trades in the name of their morals or faiths.

Lots of options!
