The Exodus of the Defiant
QuoteThe world sits twisted and broken. However where the institutions of Sanctuary once stomped their boot down on free thought and organized efforts of the goodly fearing it would become a threat to power, anarchy reigns and government has collapsed. The confusion and desperation borne of watching men and women compromise their morals, twist themselves to monsters, and more strikes deep. The fear and horror of watching innocents killed by bandits, cultists, and more as the great powers focused upon their agendas has left a humble path for the righteous: Defy.

There is no organized force enough to dismantle the litany of terrible works being done, there's no magic ritual to thwart the evil, but a community grows surrounding the ruins of Sanctuary with simple notion of refusing to compromise. That if it is to be death, it be death on our terms. With dignity and grace, heroic devotion and belief in what is truly good left in this world we strike into the Darkness.

Mankind has survived for ages in nomadic tribes, traveling from one place to another as resources and similar become sparse. The Ruins of Sanctuary serve as a meeting post, a staging ground, and ultimately a waypoint but it need not be the final destination of those who have arrived through the portal.

One of my single favorite things in EFU is when unexpected IC events lead to different character interactions that create something wholly organic and unplanned. I and a few others have been cultivating a movement of sorts which had come around as a result of facing the fact that in this world of ours, besieged on all sides, good guys have only so many options.

So totally biting one of my favorite movie moments: "So much death...what can men do against such reckless hate?"

The Exodus of the Defiant is a loose PC faction of people with the fundamental acceptance that Sanctuary is in dire straights. Death counts on the rise, failed government resulting in lack of the simplest of services, patrols have ceased to focus upon the Great Work, and it leaves a lot of gaps to be filled by outliers.

It is by no means a 100% religious faction, or a 100% good guy faction,  as there's plenty of chance for scared laymen and more neutral aligned PCs to find escape, refuge, or place among us. However there is a definite leaning towards religious element.

The overall idea though is to portray the apocalyptic wasteland with non-evil PCs enduring in the harsh world, and that if their choice is to die in some bloody gutter or out in the harsh wilds battling the Dread, the Monsters, and living in a community of decent folk?
If we are to die, let it be with honoring to our gods and ancestors, and let our end be remembered.

RwG's Concept Corner
Alignment: Non-Evil (though seedier attempts 100% welcomed to try and infiltrate)
Class: Any from goodly druids to your classic clerics and paladins or even just fresh takes on new or old classes or PRCs

Race: Any non-monstrous humanoid

- A Drill Sergeant Fighter pursuing Weapon Master and seeking to teach self defense to the young or old alike allowing the simplest of weapons to be wielded by any that they have greater chance to survive in the Underdark

- Treasure Hunter rogue who fears the fate at the hands of others turning from his life of crime to trying to scour and search tombs and ruins for religious relics to peddle among the community in exchange for place

- A nomadic merchant who's cabbages continue to be destroyed in the anarchy of Sanctuary's different districts seeking a safe haven to sell his leafy greens.

- A fatalistic Helmite who wishes to give his life in battle to save as many goodly people as possible

- A traveling bard wishing to chronicle the tales of good men in dark times, preserving them in Sanctuary should it endure

- A degenerate gambler of Tyche who likes the long shot of "run into the underdark and survive"

- A Maskarran Rogue who feels all the old rules of crime and what made it legitimate and professional  is ruined by fanatics, cultists, and madmen so hedging their bet trying to smuggle themselves to the new world

- A LN or NG Druid who spurns the Ooze Circle taking the rogue druid path of still believing something can be grown out of the ashes of this horrible world of ours

- A Shandakulan who has spent too long among Sanctuary after their god's death yearning to once more roam and explore the unknown in worthy company

- An Aberrant Hunter who believes in the old Society but refuses to abide the grotesque mockery the Knights have become

- A Mystrylan Hedge Wizard who believes magic has been too stymied by the Tower and that magical research oought be pursued away from their hands

- A Half Orc seeking place among those who would judge him less, lending his strength and grit to the cause if it meant one more piece of rotten fruit thrown at him.

- A Cleric of Grumbar who is having trouble coping with the horrific amounts of change in the last few years to the world seeking solace and old traditions of faith and conservative worship among a more Lawful community

- A smuggler shifting his trade from illicit goods to the benefits of others by sneaking food, water, potions and other necessities away from the watchful eyes of Sanctuary's protectors to outsider forces

- A Dwarven barbarian of Clanggedin, morose and bitter he didn't get to take Magnatz's head, devoting himself to hunting and pursuing the Hubris
