In my talons I shape clay

I am going to receive a lot of derisive comments for having made this suggestion and it is somewhat biased, but this spell is way too effective against low bab classes.  It has no realistic counter and just overall leaves a bad taste in my mouth.  I believe it should be nullified by minor globe or changed to not affect lower bab classes more so than higher bab classes.

I've played a number of conjuration focused wizards and disagree. I will say that high level NPCs using the spell tends to skew the opinion on this spell, but at player levels it is completely in line, and is overall less effective than evocations or a handful of other "quick damage" options.

In my talons I shape clay

I mean specifically against low bab classes like wizard and sorcerer where if stacked it is completely nuclear. At the very least it shouldn't be stackable.

I love cats

I am of the opinion Evards shouldn't be able to stack/stacked. 1 Evards alone is enough to really fuck you up. (Thank god the parlyze function is removed) But it being stacked is just absurd.

Charnelist

I might be the odd one out here but I feel like evards is really quite weak and easily countered, especially for arcane classes. Blur negates most dmg, and stone bones stacks to negate the rest. It seems mostly to be a spell that's all about counters.

One_With_Nature

Evards is fine, as stated easily countered by a pretty common potion. High level NPC's casting it should be scary.

If you're in a group as well, it's even less effective.

Having played THE WIZARD that reintroduced real spell battle tactics, I have to say- Evards is fine.

You have potions that say 'Oh, 1d6+4? Blur blocks the majority, blurring potions for all.' Misc items with Stone Bones? Items with bludgeoning % immunity?

I heard the tentacles were originally scripted to be +2 to bypass (as default) but game limitations. They should be better but they aren't.

You make your save and get out of there, and you retaliate so hard the wizard/sorc can't cast it again.

It's only if you stick around to try heal and ignore the fact a wizard/sorc is casting MULTIPLE SPELLS that it becomes a problem. A very obvious tactical problem. A lesson that you cast your spells and move in between castings. Elminster teaches us this in the book Spellfire what a real spell battle is like.

If people are only now having issues with it after this long then I can pat my Cormyrean Battle-Mage Blake Colton on the back for being an excellent teacher in showing how and when it's supposed to be used when it's all you've got to work with in a world where effectively every other fourth circle spell and lower can be 100% blocked. Use a spell that can only be 90% blocked.

Cause to be honest it's only 1d6+4 and if you know what you're doing you can actually block up to 8-9 points of that per tentacle. Hate saying it out loud here because it's really all my character has to work with to save Sanctuary - but it's so easily warded it's not funny. I wish it did more.

It's all about how prepared you are and your reaction time, nothing more and nothing less.

Revenge of the Nerds

Lol.  There are some nuances of the spell that aren't being considered. The way it's currently scripted makes it so that classes like wizard and sorcerer are affected more so than others.  This isn't aimed at anyone in particular either though we're going to have to agree to disagree about the use of this spell being a stroke of tactical brilliance.

I actually think Evards isn't strong enough. IMO, it should have paralyze again- but maybe only for those with GSF Conj.

I think Evards is solely a threat to Wizards, and that's a great thing. Wizards are OP, and there needs to be something out there that ruins their day-- IF they are unprepared. Monsters/ PCs who can cast Evards can be that.

But, I'm biased, as well. Death to all wizards.

My suggestion is to have high reflex and drink blur pots
<SkillFocuspwn> no property developers among men only brothers

I'd actually be okay with this, since conjurers can find themselves shit-out-of-luck if anything dismisses their summons.

Ironside

It is a bit of a boring and a lame tactic in spell duels and is generally frowned upon by the DM team in this context but at the same time:

Drink a blur potion.  Run away.
