Fids of the Mongrels

My original concept was a gang called the Mongrels that would be based in the sewers of Old Port. Then the sun got swallowed up and we went to the Underdark, and Lower Sanctuary was even -better- suited for gang stuff. Fids was the first rogue PC I've gone all-in on, and the Mongrels is the first PC faction I actually feel to be worth the forum I asked for. I spent a LOT more time whispering behind closed doors and plotting than I expected, making contacts and connections, supplying spies, setting bounties and spewing lies. Some of the stuff I can post here, a lot of stuff I can't.

Here's his background if anyone wants to read it.

[hide=Background]
QuoteHailing from the region of Cormyr, Fiddler chafed under the rules and restrictions leveled on the commonfolk and grew up with a large chip on his shoulder when it comes to authority. He was arrested in his teens for hunting on private land in the King's Forest and would spend the next five years in and out of prison, until he learned the skills to be a bit smarter about hiding his crimes, which ranged from racketeering to armed assault and banditry. The end of the world marked a brief period of happiness for Fiddler, as the chaos gave him the opportunity to indulge in taking vengeance on all the ones he felt wronged him over the years. All that came to an end with the approach of the Dread Army, and Fiddler fled the city along with so many others, eventually discovering a Rescue Portal and reaching Sanctuary.

Seeing Upper Sanctary to be as yet another version of Cormyr, with its directives and regulations...suspicious of the incredible magicks of the Machine, which seems to make all possible... Fiddler has found himself more and more at home amongst the rubble of Lower Sanctuary. He sees a potential in the place, a way to recreate the brief moment of freedom he enjoyed in a sunless sky, in a lawless Cormyr.

He had three rules of life.

1. Even exchange: nobody wants something for nothing. A king asks for loyalty, a God asks for reverence, a devil seeks souls. You might get what you need from them, but nothing's free.

2. If you bow your head enough times, and speak the right words, people will believe what they will of you or anything else. If you want to fool somebody, all you need to do is give them the blindfold, and say what you need to get them to tie it on themselves.

3. The only thing you can trust another to do is to screw you over.

I also learned to always name your characters IG what you want them referred to as. Despite never introducing himself as Sammy or Fiddler, just about everybody seemed to know!

Group shot, early days.

Originally, the Mongrels was going to have a human supremacy slant to it. But there are so many cute halflings and beasties out there that we phased that out <3

Also had a few chance encounters with some of Lower's more mysterious figures.

Johnny Five-Pot was having an auction, but I screwed him over making a sending about it. So he lent me the items and told me to sell them all instead, and I better make 2k out in the process.

If you're ever a rogue in charge of an auction, learn to love Examine Mark.

I had a lot of meetings in these room. Not all of them were quite so nefarious.

Sometimes I just screamed at folks who may or may not be my enemies.

Fids was pretty solidly CE, and all the talk of unity was just a careful form of rhetoric. To build the kind of place he wanted, the presence of the Spellguard and the Watch couldn't be allowed. Sometimes he could spin a pretty good tale!

He made up different names, and different personas. One of my favorites was Malk the NAKED SHADOW: a man whose talents at stealth had surpassed the need for clothing of any kind. It didn't get as much use as I would've liked.

Sometimes the lies didn't work so well, and I paid for it. Not pictured: a 8-man beatdown five minutes later.

When my travels took me beyond Lower Sanctuary, I saw progressively weird shit.

Two seconds later, this fungus sneezed.

Dreams? Also, is your PC a child molester

And a bunch of other spoilery pics!

I honestly can't wait for Lower Sanctuary to get a little more developed, because there's a ton of opportunities waiting to be set up, that I was lucky to see the beginnings of. I was a little afraid that it was going to be empty from the start, but I was proved wrong VERY quickly. At times, we had half the server in the Crone, just filled with delicious Upper spies, no doubt. Definitely encourage folks to go the gang route if you've never tried it before. Can be a done of fun.

Lower 4 Lyfe.

cheers!

that is nice... pity we didn't manage to interact more

John Doe

It's a real shame that things had to come to such an abrupt end for you. Such are the times, though. Loved spending nearly all my time with you (and Hullack). You had a good thing going buddy.  I was looking forward to getting into some of our more interesting goals. You rocked, earnest friend.

Love.

Style and class, are something very few have in spades. Concept after concept you prove to have it Blue. No matter if you have the odds or not, your willing to try your luck and that is commendable.

It is a shame this concept was cut short before it could really shine, but at least you went with style and class.

Cool character, I enjoyed our brief interactions.

Pentaxius

We never met, yet I eagerly read all your journal entries and postings you did on the forum - I really enjoyed it, and it allowed me to get a feel for this proper scoundrel character. His journal really gave him some depth !

Kudos
