Seeking Concepts, Classes, Play

I'm pining to return to EFU despite a long absence and an aborted attempt to do so already a week ago. My schedule, which has me working during the night times EST and essentially leaves me 8 am - 12 pm EST to play, isolated me three weeks ago and being in a rut at the time despite frantically trying to develop characters, I backed off.

Well now I'm thinking about EFU again, theory crafting builds in my mind, looking at character art and thinking "this would be great for 'X'", and just generally considering concepts. It's an addiction, I can't help it.

What I want to know is, since it's hard to get a feel for these things when you aren't in the server - what's lacking right now? Whats popping? I'm not necessarily looking for something super difficult or out there, I just want to know what sort of characters are we short on? Fighters? Casters? Merchants? I can't do brigand even though we always need them i'm garbage at it.

Is there a thing I could do in EFU, a class or a concept, that would make me the specialist little snowflake so I can feel useful despite my frankly mediocre mechanical presence? And whats the server pop like during the times I can play?

I would encourage you to consider any other RP experience you've had and what you enjoyed the most. Go back and re-use an old concept until you get your own idea of what the server "needs." Everyone will have their own idea of what would provide a more balanced environment, be it "nature vs city" or "good vs evil" or "upper vs lower" or whatever else. Once you've gotten an idea of the general demographics of the server, keep with your character for as long as you enjoy him/as long as he survives, then just go onto the next concept.
