I'm thinking I will bow out, at least temporarily. I've made a few embarrassing mistakes with my PC and I'm a bit too ashamed to continue (terrible perfectionist). I'll be back later probably.

Your mistakes, if you want to call them that, have led to some RP that is now a part of everyone else's story. I can understand if you need a break, but IMO you have to eventually come back to this character and finish out what you've started. Ruarc is a part of the world now, and his actions do indeed fit his character.

It's perfectly normal for a character to make a great decision to change their direction and find out who they truly are inside. Real life people do it all the time. Whatever you decide to do in character, remember that other players have invested their stories in yours. Also, keep in mind that it is really not necessary to have a successful character arc in order to have a good one. Some of the best characters ever have also made some colossal mistakes. Releasing H'bala, for example.
