So yeah, 5/fire DR isn't breaking the bank on this one.  Personally I'd like to see 5/fire DR increase like the saves do, where a level 5 fire genasi would have 10/fire DR at level 5 and 15/fire DR at level 10.

Either that, or just make the Level Adjustment 0 and leave it alone.

they dont?! says on the subrace table that they have LA +1 if they dont, then this argument is pointless. however i still would like to see them a little bit more resistant to fire dmg, if they havn't got LA +! maybe even 5dr would be cool. they are an app race so you guys get to decide who plays it anyway.

I'd disagree with leaving this alone tbh. For me its not about making this race more powerful as such, its about having them have more resistance to fire than your average PC.
 
At the moment if anyone successfully app'd one they would roll up their red skinned, flamed haired Fire Genasi (emoting maybe how he smells of burnt ash etc.) and promptly be burnt to death by the first Zombie that cast burning hands on them... that just doesn't make sense! As i have said if said Zombie cast a cold spell that would be fine if that pwn'd him.
 
So, this isn't about ECL to me, its about a Sub Race having benefits and defects that suit.
 
100% Invulnerability to Fire and 100% Vulnerability to Cold would make any Fire Genasi behave like one, i.e hate and fear all cold based climates and spells, whilst loving the soothing touch of flame.
 
With the high number of NPC's that cast Ice Storm this wouldn't make the PC overpowered. In fact in some circumstances it would make them way underpowered, whilst in others it would make them, rightly imo,very powerful in others, whilst in most they would have no particular advantage (thinking of the many quests/encounters where the damage is negative energy, sonic, acid based)

Agreed, personally i'm very much in favour of giving the the DR 5 through 15 according to levels.

I was planning on apping for one as my next pc but i think unless it got changed, i'd have to app for some kind of tool 2/day combust or something to justify this level adjustment.

Water genasi is in the same boat really. But you're not apping for the bonusses, you're apping for the cool RP the subrace gives! Don't app for a race because of it's abilities, App for it because the concept is sweet.

(Btw, for those who sggested water genasi get fire vulnerability... Do not do this! I'm sure snoteye knows this, but for the rest of you; Water genasi are not more vulnerable to fire, and do not generally have misgivings about it!)

I agree that you app with the story and fun you want to have not the bonuses and i think thats my point.
 
RPing a Fire Genasi who gets hurt from touching a candle flame (as would happen now) with exactly the same damage/pain as any other race (apart from Wild Dwarfs who would be immune, with their fire DR5!) would for me break immersion, and not aid RP.

Definately, agreed, just a simple 5 DR to fire would be nice.  If you think about it, Water genasi get to breath under water....  That's a nice perk...  Adding a hair of bonus to the fire genasi would make it a pretty cool race.

seriously though im in agreement that you should app for rp coolness, but what is cool about a firedude who cries when he touches a flame.

I stick with my post last week, I'd love to be able to have a fire genasi that could cast combust on itself 1/day and fight while on fire...

Mmm...fire genasi should get elemental shield 1x/day.  And maybe alchemist's fire 3x/day.
