[tface=Meddon]A[/tface][tface=callig]oife O'Mahoney's Songbook[/tface]

[tface=callig]A bard of little compare; the songs of Aoife O'Mahoney are traditional, haunting and oft filled to abundance with the joys granted by Milil. [/tface]

[tface=Meddon]T[/tface][tface=callig]he Banks of the Ashaba[/tface]

[SIZE="4"]'Twas on a summer's morning all in the month of Mirtul
And through some flowery gardens I carelessly did stray
I overheard a damsel in sorrow to complain
All for her absent lover that ploughed the raging main

I steppe'd up unto her and put her in surprise
I swear she did not know me, I being all in disguise
Says I, "My handsome maiden, my joy and heart's delight
How far must you then wander this dark and dreary night?"

"Just to the Banks of the Ashaba if you'll be pleased to show
Take pity on a fair maid, it's there I have to go
In search of a faithless young man, and Johnny is his name
And on the Banks of the Ashaba I'm told he does remain"

"These are the Banks of the Ashaba, young maid whereon you stand
But do not trust your Johnny for he's a false young man
No do not trust your Johnny, he will not meet you here
So come with me to the meadows and nothing need you fear"

"If Johnny he were here this night he'd keep me from all harm
But he's in the field of battle all in his uniform
He strives in the field of battle his foes he will destroy
Like a royal king of honour that fought on the banks of the Duathamper"

"'Tis six long years or better since Johnny left this shore
He's cruising the main ocean performing billows roar
He's cruising the main ocean for honour and for gain
But I'm told his ship was wrecke'd on the cruel coast of Swords"

Oh when she heard this dreadful news she fell in deep despair
A-wringing of her milk-white hands and a-tearing of her hair
"If my Johnny he be drownded no man alive I'll talk
Through lonesome groves and valleys I'll wander for his sake"

When he saw her love for him no longer could he stand
He flew into her arms saying, "Patsy I'm your man
I am your faithless young man who you thought lay slain
Now since we met on the Ashaba Banks we'll never part again"[/SIZE]

[tface=Meddon]T[/tface][tface=callig]he Gondite Smith[/tface]

[SIZE="4"]The Gondite Smith courted me
Nine months and better
He fairly won my heart
Wrote me a letter
With his hammer in his hand
He looked quite clever
And if I was with my love
I'd live forever.

But where is my love gone?
With his cheeks like roses
And his good black billycock on
Decked round with primroses
I'm afraid the scorching sun
Will shine and burn his beauty
And if I was with my love
I'd do my duty.

Strange news is come to town
Strange news is carried
Strange news flies up and down
That my love is married.
I wish them both much joy
Though they can't bear me
And may the Gods reward him well
For the slighting of me.

Don't you remember when
You lay beside me
And you said you'd marry me
And not deny me
If I said I'd marry you
It was only for to try you
So bring your witness love
And I'll not deny you.

No witness have I none
Save the Gods Almighty
And may he reward you well
For the slighting of me.

Her lips grew pale and wan
It made a poor heart tremble
To think she loved a one
And he proved deceitful.

Nine months and better
He fairly won my heart
Wrote me a letter
With his hammer in his hand
He looked quite clever
And if I was with my love
I'd live forever.[/SIZE]

[tface=Meddon]T[/tface][tface=callig]he Woman I love so well[/tface]

[SIZE="4"]Here's a health to you, bonny Reddansyr
Where you'll get all the pleasures of life,
Where you'll get all the fishing and fowling,
And a bonny wee lass for your wife.

Oh, it's down where yon waters run muddy,
I'm afraid they will never run clear.
And it's when I dig in for to study,
My mind is on them that's not here.

It's this one and that one they court him,
but if anyone gets him but me,
It's early and late I will curse them
That parted lovely Willie from me.

Oh, a father he calls on his daughter,
Two choices I'll give unto thee.
Would you rather see Willie's ship a-sailing,
Or see him hung like a dog from yon tree?

Oh, Father, dear Father, I love him.
I can no longer hide it from thee.
Through an acre of fire I would travel
Alone with lovely Willie to be.

Oh, hard was the heart that confined her,
And took from her her heart's delight.
May the chains of the old Dragon Coast bind around them,
And soft be their pillows at night.

Oh, yonder's a ship on the ocean
And she does not know which way to steer.
From the east to the west she's a-going.
She reminds me of the charms of my dear.

Oh, it's yonder my Willie will be coming,
He said he'd be here in the spring,
And it's down by yon green shades I'll meet him,
And among yon wild roses we'll sing.

For a gold ring he placed on my finger,
Saying "Love, bear this in your mind,
If ever I sail from the old Dragon Coast,
You'll mind I'll not leave you behind."

Farewell to you, bonny Reddansyr
Where you'll get all the pleasures of life,
Where you'll get all the fishing and fowling,
And a bonny wee lass for your wife.[/SIZE]

[tface=Meddon]T[/tface][tface=callig]he Blackest Gift[/tface]

[SIZE="4"]
It is a night of sorrow, a song of darkness,
wolves vent their howls. The eternal one
stirs.

Curling wisps of death shrouds her pale form;
a brooding desire.

Her ebon hair cascades over
pale and tragic shoulders, and her
full scarlet lips part slightly, to taste the
red tears streaming from the
pale flesh beneath
her.

Now a night of the taking,
I remember her.

[tface=Meddon]S[/tface][tface=callig]he Was Only a Wanton Weredragon,
But She Was a Fair Lady[/tface]

[SIZE="4"]Oh, in a time lost to memory
A scene is set within an old rectory
Who's story is testimony
A woman of scale and of flame,
For a crime known as love
Did she glance up above
To the crags and the rocks of her cage.

In the dawn of fair spring
Who would fancy such a thing
As a young man that would walk yonder way
To a tower alone, which was also a home
To a Weredragon, old as the hills,
So long had it been,
Since she'd have had such a fling
With a man as handsome and bountiful as he.

As spring ran away;
Felt much like a day
Did the woman and lover grow fond,
But as the blood moon came to pass
Did their dream no longer last,
For along with the moon came great pain
And the woman, who we blame,
Could not control her inner-Draconic.

In fire and in flame
Was their dream chased away,
Like the stars that flee with the morning.
The young man who was scorched,
Lay arched and contort'
An example that all could see,
For unlike he that did love,
They all looked above
A Ruby Dragon that they thought for revenge.

For the boy that was loved
Was thought thereof
As a prince both noble and brave,
Beloved by the people
They saw only the steeple
Of a crooked and terrifying tower.
The Weredragon, who they hoped to slay
Looked down and did say;
"'Twas love that saw his demise."

"Do not blame me" she boomed and with scree
"For I can not control who I am"
But the people just laughed, lit fires and drew arms
With a hope to bring the Dragon low,
For days they did battle,
She ate all their cattle,
But eventually, as Dragons oft, was brought low.
In a magical cage, was she found and restrained,
And to where she lingers to this day.

An example to all,
Love burns and hurts all,
For none may escape the fires of passion for long.
Next time you do kiss, just remember this;
"What will I wake up with, the next day?"
She Was Only a Wanton Weredragon,
But She Was a Fair Lady.

[tface=Meddon]T[/tface][tface=callig]he  Lovelorn Coachman Speaks[/tface]

[SIZE="4"]When sun meets sky
And the moon passes by
Did the enduring coachman come to stay,
His old friend he did greet
With a passing of seat
For his friend was a miserable Graveman.

An Undertaker he was
That knew little of love,
It was a friendship born from childhood.
Long had they known
That it was love that shall grow,
But neither dared to face the truth.

There eyes, they did meet
Yet none dared to greet
The sensation of unbridled love,
For fear that they did
That too long had they hid
The feelings that stirred in their bosom.

On a cold winters day,
Finally he had to say
The Coachman that long had endured,
"Oh Grave keeper" he wailed
"Our love shall set sail, if we do not meet it full mast."
Along, and at last,
Did they kiss and hold fast
The emotion that long they'd ignored.

Together forever,
A never should ever
Their love leave them alone.
An unlikely pair,
That had little care
For anything beyond each other.

[tface=Meddon]A[/tface][tface=callig] Kiss In The Morning[/tface]

[SIZE="4"]'Twas early one morning a fair maid arose
And dressed herself up in the finest of clothes
And off to the shoemaker's shop sure she goes
For the kiss in the morning early

The cobbler arose and he soon let her in
His awl and his hammer were neat as a pin
And he had the will for to greet her so slim
With a kiss in the morning early

"O Cobbler, o cobbler, 'tis soon we'll be wed
And nestling together in a fine feather bed
So give me two shoes with two buckles of red
For my kiss in the morning early"

The maid hid the shoes at the back of her waist
She praised his good cobbling and shoemaker's taste
And home to her father she mournfully faced
And it was in the morning early

"O Father, o Father, I've got me a man
And he is the one I would wed if I can
As handsome as ever in leather did stand
For my kiss in the morning early"

So the father was thinking and thinking again
For to wed her to riches and have him for kin
Who knows but it might be a prince or a king
That she met in the morning early

Who knows but it might be a jobber from town
Or a wealthy sea captain who's sailed the world round
A man with some thousands and thousands of coins
That she met in the morning early

So the father was smiling, his daughter embraced
And touching the buckles he drew back in haste
He spied the red shoes that were tied round her waist
Oh it was in the morning early

"O daughter, o daughter" he started to shout
When he did discover what she was about
"God knows 'twas none but that old cobbling clout
That you met in the morning early."[/SIZE]

[tface=Meddon]C[/tface][tface=callig]ome Kiss Me, Love[/tface]

[SIZE="4"][indent]
Come kiss me love before you leave me
Come kiss the one you have betrayed
And when I'm dead my love come and see me
And throw sweet flowers upon my grave.

Once I loved you with all my heart and soul
I thought your love was all for me
Until a stranger came and caught your eye
I found you cared no more for me.

Many's the night with you I've rambled
Many's the night with you I've strayed
Thinking your love was mine forever
But now I find it was all in vain.[/SIZE][/indent]

[tface=Meddon]A[/tface][tface=callig]re there any as ugly as he?[/tface]

[SIZE="4"]When a King rules the land with firm, yet gentle hand
There is said to be peace all around
Yet a terrible blight, what a truly awful sight
Are they any as ugly as he?
A wise head he may have, yet beauty he lacks
Are there any as ugly as he?

When a King has no Queen, a fate unforeseen
There are said to be questions unanswered
Yet with a face like a pig, and the charm of a stig
Are there any as ugly as he?
For alone he will linger, no ring on his finger
Are there any as ugly as he?

When a King has no heir, and with looks to despair
There is said to be trouble a'brewing
Yet he's such a borer, with looks that cause horror
Are there any as ugly as he?
With no children to sire, could he be any drier?
Are there any as ugly as he?

When a King grows old, and his years grow lonely and cold
There is said to be little hope left
Yet with age he's grown grimmer, and even more dimmer
Are there any as ugly as he?
With the charms of the grave, on his stone they'd engrave
Are there any as ugly as he?

When a King passes away, alone he did stay
They say all hope flies away
Yet a smile on his face gives a strange grace,
Are there any as cocky as he?
With a life spent alone, came a fortune that'd grown
Are there any as smug now as he?

[tface=Meddon]A[/tface][tface=callig] Poised Duchess[/tface]

[SIZE="4"]I once heard a jolly story
One summer's day within a glen
They spoke of a poised duchess
Some time ago, way back when.

They say she met a Fisherman
As nasty a man was he
Introduced by an unknown Footman
She met him beside an Oak-Tree.

No sooner had they met eyes
The poised Duchess and Fisherman here
Has they started a furious argument
Neither cared if the other'd disappear'.

Yet it was a strange situation
The meeting of Duchess and Ang'lerman
For even while they were rowing
Something of wonder had clearly began.

"I can't stand lasses like you"
That the furious Angler had said
"How fortunate that I hate you clearly"
Griped the Duchess, wishing him dead.

Even with words laced with poison
Something within both Gent and Lady
Began to shimmer, dance and sparkle
Under the bough o'the nearby Oak-Tree

For there's often a strange situation
When poised ladies meet men o'work
That even though they're obviously different
They can't stop their heart-beat; berserk.

I'm not saying this tale's o'marriage
For clearly that could never be
It was a fun, frolicking evening
That ended her in the arms o'he.

I once heard a jolly story
One summer's day within a glen
They spoke of a poised duchess
Some time ago, way back when.

[tface=Meddon]O[/tface][tface=callig]'Jackie[/tface]

[SIZE="4"][chorus]O'Jackie, the bard of little compare
O'Jackie, the hin with hazelnut hair
O'Jackie, where have you got to?
O'Jackie, we've hope you'll come through.

There are few that didn't know Jackie
Such an amiable hin-woman was she
There are few that didn't know Jackie
A player with ample esprit.

Her songs are something of legend
What glorious odes she'd compose
Tales of vibrant, joyful expanses
Oft' sang with her fellow; Twinkletoes.

[chorus]O'Jackie, the bard of little compare
O'Jackie, the hin with hazelnut hair
O'Jackie, where have you got to?
O'Jackie, we've hope you'll come through.

There are few that didn't know Jackie
What cheer she brang to the Mist's End
There are few that didn't know Jackie
What beautiful songs, 'nay anthems(!) she'd penned.

What fabulous plays she had written
Tales of everyday vanity fair
We'll miss her far flung example
Of what it is to cheer loud in the air.

O'Jackie, the hin with hazelnut hair
O'Jackie, where have you got to?
O'Jackie, we've hope you'll come through.

[tface=Meddon]T[/tface][tface=callig]he Unicorn Run[/tface]

[SIZE="4"]Born 'loft the falling tears of a star
These waters flow with purest, unalloyed joy
The Tranquillity of life heard 'pon every blissful splash
Beautiful lapping of ebbing laughter, wherever you are.

The far peaks of the mythical mountain of stars
See the great waters dancing and falling with grace
The sensation of splashing understanding,
Found at the heart of this euphoric, heavenly place.

The vision of happiness these waters present,
A song sang directly to the heart, and the spirit
For it is said that they shimmer with the jubilance of life,
The daughter of the world expressing her bountiful limit.

Felt dashing through the soothing waters,
The bounding and leaping motions of celestial Larue
A maiden of beauty born from our Lady of Silver
She asks that you dance with her, too.

So run the hidden pathways of the High Forest,
Come feel the sensation of unbound beauty and grace
For it can be found all around you,
In this most sacred and delphian place.
