Mimic Nerfs

Outcast

Knowing this is going to happen, going to make some suggestions that I'd think would do well without making them useless or underpowered. Very simple suggestions at that.

Disable mimicking other mimics.  This makes sense considering that a mimic can't truly cast spells, only mimic true casters.  Thus a mimic should be unable to mimic other mimics, and this disallows ravaging bands of mimics.

A cooldown timer on Spell Steal that is dependent on the power of the spell stolen.  This would keep mimics from stealing in rapid succession and have essentially unlimited spells, constantly flinging them all over the place.  But still keeping them more versatile than regular sorcerers.

Remove the green flashing VFX. So immersion breaking. Need my immersion. Also, perhaps keep it from telling what spell the person has unless you successfully steal it; because its sort of metagamish.

See my next post below.

I think the timer, if it is too long could be too powerful of a nerf, but everything else is great.

Also, to balance them, maybe get rid of Spell resistance, they are very powerful without it.

Reuel

I disagree with every aspect of these suggestions. If anything, the Arcane Mimic needs to be able to steal spells from more sources, including wand charges and scrolls.

Jagged

Mimics are already kind of a support-focused class, so I say no timer or else they'll be absolutely worthless in PvP encounters.

Not being able to mimic other mimics is a must, yes.

I don't see why the vfx is immersion break. I think it signifies nicely that the mimic is "capturing" another's spell.

Johannes kinda said it was impossible, but it would be pretty awesome if mimics could counter-spell a mage (with the appropriate spell to do so) and then steal the spell the target was attempting to cast. That would be so sweet and more akin to a spellthief. (Let a boy dream, will you)

Softie

Can mimics cast summons?

Outcast

After playing my mimic a little more, I have to agree with Jagged.  They really are more of a support class than anything.  If mimics were unable to mimic other mimics, it would balance it well I suspect.

As for summoning, they can.  Which can grow a little out of control if with another summoner.  Maybe reduce their summoning point cap?

Softie

They can summon?  Mother of god.  What stops them from trailing a full army of summons near continuously on quests?  There are loads of enemies on some quests for them to mimic.  Even dead stargazer shamans.  Would a mimic make the fairy tough grove defense quest trivial with dozens of swarma?

derfo

Thank you for your concerns and suggestions, but we already have changes lined up.

Ebok

Can we remove the perk now?

Ebok

Since the changes, I strongly recommend that there are other items or charges which could be destroyed to attain a spell. Having no access to offensive of any kind is extremely crippling as is, and now potions are the only source that you can provide for yourself

Jagged

I agree with Ebok. Their capacity for offensive spells is very limited indeed.
