Dispel is a hostile act

If you are going to intercede into PvP and begin spamming dispels upon people, it is politely asked you please hostile the person you are dispelling. It's a hugely hostile action to step into PvP in such a way and it is not something that can easily be mitigated on the end of the person in the middle of the fight.

Just take a 2 second pause to hostile in the playerlist before tossing the spell.

Because neck deep in PvP it's hard to always attack people putting themselves into the fight without putting themselves on the line.

Agreed, Hostile should be used before ALL actions that could be construed as PVP (or perhaps even leading to it).

the /c setally and /c hostile commands are there to help you. simply type /c setally CharacterName (usually just the first name suffices, like /c setally Thomas for Thomas Acorn)

Then after you set your allies, type /c hostileall

And you instantly hostile everyone not setally to you.

Now does this also apply to actions like healing or buffing someone  involved in pvp? I would imagine it to be, since why wouldn't you be  hostile to your opponent's healer?

What might be helpful is if a player tool were made to function like the pvp tool. Since using it doesn't eat up an action, it might be a fast way to set someone with a longer name to hostile without having to scan the player list or type it out in high-stakes situations.

Engaging in PVP while non-hostile to your enemies is explicitly breaking one of the rules of the server.

Making the player tool in inventory a free action might help some of this as well. As it is, if someone does not preemptively have people set to hostile and a situation arises, they are left to spend a round setting them to hostile or attempting to type in names in a panic situation.

Furthermore, I would once again suggest that the hostile scripts start using a method similar to the ally scripts and not require full names and it would make it much easier!

Yep.

Always use hostile if you plan on tipping the scales of PvP one way or another.

Let me say that again: ALWAYS. If you are not sure about a scenario, just hostile to be on the safe side.

So when you're buffing before PvP, it's best to hostile then too, in my opinion as a player. That way if someone wants to come out with a dispel or something as you start buffing they don't have to fumble for hostile themselves. It's easier for the one initiating these things to hostile than for the other guy!

/c hostileall exists for a reason, folks!

Snoteye

To any players that don't know, hostile exists in part to communicate to other players that you are participating in an act that may lead to or be construed as a hostile action, but also has mechanical importance such as triggering AoOs when appropriate.

TheMacPanther

/c hostileall is a free action, it can even be hot keyed so you don't have to worry about typing in the middle of combat. So just toss it in control+f12 or something out of the way and make everyone happy.

I think it's pretty sweet tbh.

Also: When was casting a spell on someone ever not possibly a hostile action?

Big Orc Man

A decent rule of thumb is if you're doing something to someone that they might not consent to, or you'll doing something to someone that their foe might not consent to, it's a hostile act.

Outcast

Or something you wouldn't want done to you without first being hostiled.

xXCrystal_Rose

Even if you're just an observer on the sideline you might want to hit hostile, just incase. Things can get out of hand any moment after all. Well, I do that at least.

wcsherry

BOM you make PvP sound like a bad date.

Whatever sherry tells you to do. Do the opposite. It usually works in the long run.
