Cinema. Ever since Edison first captured pictures and put them to motion in his free time when he wasn't busy pettily ruining Nicolai Tesla's life, the movies have captured the imagination of the United States and in time the world like no other phenomenon before it. Whereas the radio and the airplane had made the world smaller and allowed mankind to share idea's, Cinema allowed men to share their dreams - stories could be spread far and wide, immersive and visual. Worlds of imagination and shared experiences became available.

So it is with great pleasure I begin a thread which, I hope, will serve as a guideline for our community - a place where we can congregate and discuss our experiences, and lend our recommendations. To inauguration this effort, I turn to a word smith we all know, a fixture of the community who, in his own special way, has commanded the attention of all. For us, he has deigned to review -

Marvelous.

The Beggar

I had family that went to see Hobbit on opening night. The review from Matron Mother via text was:

Quotehubbit sucked. hope u like noncanon characters
<SkillFocuspwn> no property developers among men only brothers

Corrigo

I don't recall any noncanon characters in that movie.

There were some big alterations to existing characters (fun fact, Azog was killed by Dain, not Thorin), but I don't think they just randomly made up any new ones.

Axiom

I actually really liked the Hobbit.

Jayde Moon

I was rather entertained.  I am angry that Azog did not have his orcs sing the "15 Birds in 5 Fir Trees" song as that is the best song in the Hobbit.

Additions to the film to foreshadow the LotR Trilogy are fine, imo.  Placement of canon characters that did not actually appear in the Hobbit itself are fine, imo.

It was an entertaining film and when held up on its own has no issues.  The only gripes people have are complaints relative to the book.

My review of The Hobbit: meh

chrijone

Disco

morva

The Hobbit was incredibly fun. I thought it was a little nicer than LotR, perhaps lighter in tone but only by a little. It was very nice to see Gollum again.

My only complaint is that they did not sing all 27 verses of Over the Misty Mountains Cold.

putrid_plum

The Hobbit was great, haters!
