EFU Launcher

So with Gamespy no longer supporting NWN leaving players to login through the direct connect how do players feel about making a custom launcher which would allow them to jump into EFU from their desktop without even starting NWN. I know a couple servers that are already done this; plus if people so choose they can use the launcher to also download the custom content such as portraits and other stuff we have for the server. I think it might take away from some of the hassle not to mention its more efficent.

Pandip

If you build it, they will come.

I've never heard of a server that built it's own launcher that will automatically download custom content for you. That's an incredibly big undertaking (IMO).

But either way it kind of violates something that EFU was built on. That being the idea that you don't  need to download anything but NWN to play EFU for the first time.

CoA has done it.

While this would be really awesome and convenient, as Vlaid said it goes against what EfU's built around: 'pick up and play'.

Not to mention it sounds like a coding nightmare.

KingHovCopy

uh, it would be optional. (at least until they decide to use HAKs or such in another setting or something) How does that go against anything?

Adhesive

I don't know how these things work.

Ravenloft as well per my suggestion :) I don't know the specifics of how its done but I am trying to find out but one of the guys over there was able to make it in a couple of days

Not quite up to date or anything, but Scotty beat everything to it long time ago. Couple years to be exact.

Naturally it would need tweaking, probably, as our address changed and all that, but if Scotty was around / gets around, if he ever had time, maybe he could rework it a bit. Or one of us, who knows.

I saw this somewhere on the forum. I don't remember where the thread is, so I'll just tell you in my own words how to do a direct connect shortcut. (It's pretty much basic though, no nice launcher involved)

1 : Create a shortcut of your nwmain.exe
2 : Right-click and select Properties on your shortcut and change the target location to

C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\nwmain.exe +connect 50.97.38.98:5121
(The folder where your NWN install is may be different, adjust it to whatever suits you. The important part is what comes after nwmain.exe)

Voilà. This is how I log on the server everytime.

Perfect now all we need is Scotty or someeone with the know how to modify the address and its good

Thirsting

If you manage to make it work, please put it somewhere easy to find. Like sticky it in announcements or something. It has been quite an adventure in itself to try to find exactly how to get to play this thing again!

Paha

How to play is easy. Launch nwn, go to internet games like ever before, and use direct connect with the address we have in our irc channel:

nwn.escapefromundeath.com:5121
Or nwn.escapefromundeath.com

Thirsting

Ah, excellent! Thank you.
