In case of crashes, the merchant can at least run back and salvage his wares. I've seen people put a HUGE amount of items in there. Should a crash occur, they'll be wiped.

I swear I suggested this earlier. Maybe it was an on-the-whim suggestion I spouted in IRC.

But, yes, I whole heartedly agree.

The only downside I can think of is people stealing merchant wares before the merchants can log in and return to the chest, but I think it's safe to say the DMs would be able to catch that easy.
