Yeah. Alphonse met an epic ending. Unfortunately while he was really fun to play, I wouldn't consider him a successful character. Sure, he made tons of money, but I never managed to shake things up on him by my own fault, of course. But as all things, EfU is a learning process. Anyways, down to some history!

[hide=Background]
Born in the merchant city state of Shamph, in Chondath, Alphonse was the only child of two prominent aristocratic merchants of note. His parents were very vain and always sought to improve themselves in the eyes of their peers, and thus when he was eleven he was sent to the Temple of Waukeen to become a Goldeye.

Alphonse proved himself talented in what they set him out to do, but to the dread of his parents he enjoyed his party life, with women, booze and drugs, causing them to fear that they he might run away with a simple tavern wench or become a junkie. He initially laughed at them for caring what others thought of them and saw them as uppity tight asses, but he'd eventually become much like them upon his time in Ymph, in the sense that image became everything to him.

Despite his views, he was always grateful to his parents as he was born into a golden crib and they always attended his every desire. He had graduated from temple service and became a cleric two years prior to being brought to Ymph. By then he already had a small, yet promising business in silk trades, but became a weapons dealer when he was warped to the strange archipelago.[/hide]

[hide=Goals]
  • Become Master Merchant
  • Establish a syndicate of merchants that would work towards gaining political power
  • Have a healthy number of sellsword PCs at the disposal of the Guild (only had 3)
  • Literally make it rain gold in Mistlocke through a ritual and thus promote the worship of Waukeen (Was planning to spend 5000 gold on this plus a bunch of expensive reagents, but I couldn't get on at a time where there were many PCs in Mistlocke and a DM available
  • Conduct a lavish festival when someone converted to Waukeen
  • Become Lord-Mayor
  • Purchase land within Mistlocke and build an estate upon it for the Guild
  • Construct a magic vault within the estate that would become the thing of legends in regards to the riches contained within
  • Set up bounties on outlaws that crossed the Guild (Damn Mist Wraiths got caught too quickly!)
  • Become an Elder
  • Build up Mistlocke and turn it into a proper place to live
  • Build a Manchakan Embassy within Mistlocke and profit upon them through the import tax
  • Hire an army of mercenaries from Old Port to defend Mistlocke and make the townspeople feel safe
  • Become the richest man on the isle
  • Earn an afterlife scene when he died

[hide=His gold]

He peeked out at about 74k, with people owing him 17k, and 4k more in the bank. He still had a shit ton of loot to sell. Something like eighty plus items. It's not hard to make coin when you have 70 items worth of storage. Alphonse also wore like seven +1 universal saves items. =)

And what happened to his fortune? Well, it didn't blow up with the Conclave, I'll tell you that!

[/hide]

[Hide=Loot]
His cloak was purchased from the Manchakan Embassy in a trip to Old Port for ten thousand gold. It was so awesome. Thanks, JaydeMoon!

He also had his Coronet of Coins, but I forgot to take a screenshot of it. =( It was basically a crown with a face guard made through melted golden coins, received as a reward for an epic DM quest that consisted of defending a druid that was working a ritual as H'Bala spawns battered our heads in. Immense fun, and cool reward. I remember the stats on it though, so here it is:

+1 Deflection AC, Extra Spell Slot: Cleric Level 1 and 2, +4 Appraise, +2 Persuade, Bright White Light(20 m), -2 Spot/Listen/Concentration, -1 Will; Only to be used by Alphonse Ja Von[/hide]

Alphonse was a womanizing man-whore. Here he is getting a sponge bath from one of his many suitors.

A trip to Old Port with Zoe!

Smokin' cigars with Major Hood (and trying to defend Mayor Squire).

Caravans. Ah, yes... Alphonse Appraise/Persuade was so high, he'd make like a 360 gold profit for each one he ran.

Many conversations took place in here.

Back when Alphonse was "poor".

Ahoy, maties! (Alphonse always traded with the Conclave, even when they were still exiled from Mistlocke)

Mayor Lisette. Alphonse always wanted to be able to say he shagged her.

Hosting a (fail) party at the Officer's Club.

Axirios freakin' out in the Square. Too many instances of the word "Chaos" were used.

Summoned by the Lord-Mayor again. She so wanted Alphonse.

Getting his monthly teeth cleaning. Paid a scroll of Bull's Strength for the service. =)

A employee's funeral. (Something like five members of his Guild were murdered during his time on Ymph. It's darn hard to recruit in the Archipelago!)

A failed conversion. Azrael was too confused to speak of his converted faith with true heart at the time, and he died before getting a chance to become a full Waukeenar.

Action shot!

I was a click away from trashing this baby. Ended up selling it for 8000 gold. Had bought it for 1k + a magic shield and chainmail. XD

An epic spiced Tower of Mercy. The NPC summoning beholders was suppose to teach Alphonse the theme for ten thousand coins but sadly he got himself killed when fighting Ghula.

Fat Mary Bite Coin, heating up the Market Hall.

The Mist just messing with our heads.

Executing a duergar for attempted murder and banditry. Alphonse had captured him himself, but I later regretted the decision of turning him over to the authorities for execution. The PC was still new and not to mention an app character. I should have offered him the opportunity to join the Merchant's Guild in exchange of citizenship. Let it be a lesson for the future.

Really cool looking gathering.

Here's the reason Alphonse gave all his gold to a friend, a vision from his very Goddess! Too bad what the Conclave had offered in exchange for aiding in the ritual was too good to pass up on the risk.

The DM quest Alphonse earned his Coronet of Coins on.

Haggling the shit outta Leyph for bogus information(Alphonse didn't know that though).

His final (epic) moments.

Resulted in a FUGUE PARTAY!
[/hide]

And that was that. Alphonse was actually a generous man, when he thought it deserving. Gave a lot of free raise, mostly. People still saw him as a greedy bastard though. Only his closest friends seemed to see his true nature. The others were just jealous of his success. =P

Thank you everyone that played a role in his life on Ymph. You made everything so awesome. Rock on!

Oh yes... and don't forget, ALL YOUR GOLD IS BELONG TO ME! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!

HeartBreaker

My brain melted at those high numbers.

Deception

how is that even possible

Teeth in a Bowl

His freak-out when he learned Lyonel was faithless was priceless.

Glad to see he still got a good send-off. Excellent PC, even with your extortionate prices. :P

Aethereal

Each Master Merchant has brought their own unique charm to office, and Alphonse definitely had his own bit of roguish respect for those of other specialisations (always enjoyed how he'd call in the Coroner for dealing with deaths!) and that of high society.

I do recall how he always spoke of his various properties (my seaside estate, [jealous!]), and all the permanent storage he managed to hoard.

Also amusing how those loot shots took place as you realised the inevitable upon the floating enclave. xD

It is through Art, and through Art only, that we can realise our perfection.

Zoe

He drove Zoe nuts with his recklessness and mouthy whiny insubordination but that scene with the ooze and the kid made it so she could never quite bring herself to fire him. Nicely done, fun to interact with.

Pentaxius

I loved Alphonse. Great portrait of a Cleric of Waukeen. It was a pleasure to interact with him.

So unfortunate him and Balt died, we were starting to have great team of Overseers. It was also a pity that you couldn't get any opportunities to invest your gold something that would have changed the village, like a new building, to leave a legacy behind you.

The Axiomatic Oren-collector will be missed.

The Old Hack

Alas Alphonse! Ekaterin liked him in her own frosty way and Briar never could resist his charm. Ymph will be the poorer and less womanised for his lack!

Wonderful character, good luck with the next one!

<3

Corrigo

I played a merchant in NWN who's slogan was all your gold are belong to me years ago.

Kinslayer988

Wonderful mechanting fellow that I felt happy to interact with. Good job!

Pup

I remember that Vampire Armor!  That was an insane bitch to get!

Alphonse was cool, though.  I actually thought he was generous, too.
"So what else is on your mind besides 100 proof women, 90 proof whisky, and 14 karat gold?"
"Amigo, you just wrote my epitaph."

"Maybe there's just one revolution.  The good guys against the bad guys.  The question is, who are the good guys?"

Man Imma miss Alphonse!  He was Lockleede's Closest companion!  Thanks for that thing btw.  Still working on using it to build you a shrine!

Kinslayer988

I am laughing as I noticed you were taking pictures of some of your loot before the ritual finished. Good timing too.

NecropolisV

Never knew him actually but sounds like he was a boss pc :P way to go on really a master merchant pc!

Alphonse Ja Von was a fantastic character.  The first character within Mistlocke to take in Ranes Sharboneth and provide him with his first start in the Merchant business.  I wish I had the chance to do more exciting things IG with him, but fun nonetheless!
