With the absence of the Conclave, I’m proposing a new group to act as a kind of public face of evil, hopefully with some semblance of sustainability. They will also hopefully be able to take full advantage of chaotic phenomena like instabilities in the weave and The Mist, and actively participate in the rearranged theology of EFU:M. If this appeals to anyone, send me a PM and we'll give it a good go.

with hatred for the lives we’ve lost,
from desert plains we ride again,
to crush the hopes and dreams of men

The Knights of Apostasy are a group of doomed and lost men, originating from all over Faerun. In their past lives some were dashing Waterdhavian paladins that were lead astray; others were Cormyrean Purple Dragon Knights that failed to protect their charges: all have suffered a tragedy from which they have sought to escape.

Travelling across the continent to the Plains of Purple Dust, these men lived nomadic lives in the barren deserts of the farthest reaches of East Faerun in the hopes that this would expunge the bitter memory of past disasters. Most sought only to die quietly, in ignominy, obscurity and in repentance for their failures. Over time, the exotic, wild magic of the Plains of Purple Dust began to rid some of them of the memory of their misfortunes, while awakening long dormant sorcerous bloodlines in others. Although many started slowly to forget the circumstances of their downfall, they did not escape the pain that it had caused them. Haunted by an empty, meaningless agony and unable to recall its cause, these men were turned into unfeeling husks of their former selves. Many have found some succour in the worship and adoration of female deities with portfolios relevant to their plight, chiefly Shar, Beshaba and Loviatar. Treating these deities as though they were their knightly Ladies of Favour, they find a renewed sense of purpose and meaning, regaining the sense of pride and honour that they had previously known, although as perverse and twisted shadows of their former selves. Now, they ride proudly out to battle, championing the favour of their adored Ladies, and spreading pain, loss and misfortune wherever they go.

Zapped from their desert home by the mythallar, they find themselves on Ymph at a time of great change and turmoil: a time of wild magic, creating an environment similar to the swirling plains of purple dust in the deserts of their home. Additionally, the isle is shrouded in a mist which mercifully dulls the mind and blunts the senses: this mysterious shroud of jeopardy, in which adventurers are frequently addled, lost and killed, now takes on a religious significance for the Knights. Within this holy mist, they find a village entirely composed of those that, like them, have lost everything of their former lives by a cruel and capricious misfortune.

The Knights of Apostasy are fierce warriors, combining the strict martial prowess learned in the finishing schools, academies and monasteries of Faerun’s Western nations, with the hard-bitten Bedouin survivalism of the desert plains of the East. Some Apostates cross-class as rogues and rangers while others found the wild magic of the desert awoke sorcerous capabilities within them.

Most Apostates still wear the medium to heavy armour of West Faerun that they had won in their youth, while taking on desert affectations such as head-scarves, Arabesque facial hair and the use of exotic weapons. Every Knight bears a ‘favour’ of his respective Lady, similar to those exchanged by mortals at hastiludes, although in this case they range from a simple ribbon tied about the bicep to more bizarre and outlandish items. Additionally, they are all fluent in Mulhorandi.

An Apostate is likely to be highly charismatic, with a deep sense of duty to the Lady to whom he swears loyalty. While some knights are capable of acts of chivalry beyond superficial gestures, most others have lost all sense of their humanity, and will take great pleasure not only in acts of extreme evil, but in the remorseless and liberating ease with which they can perform them.

Had very good interest in this so far. If everyone that's planning on playing an Aspotate could send me a message with a brief description of their PC so I can get a few names together by the end of tomorrow (Thurs 25th), I'll write up an application for a prelude which will hopefully get turned around in time for the weekend. If not, we'll just start our PCs tomorrow or Friday.

HalflingPower

As I am participating in this everyone should definitely pay attention.

This seems neat. I'd suggest Dambrath as a place to come from, for interested parties. A country where females are the ruling gender and Loviatar is the patron.

Calamitas

We're starting this in a matter of hours.

I delcare this faction formally open! We are IG as of now! Please feel free to join us at any time, and simply look for a PC named Kochari.

Also please read this short IC introductory excerpt which will give you a basic backgroundd to how we arrive on Ymph, and provide ample justification for late arrivers/late joiners (who are very much welcome!):

Quote[... there was a crack of thunder. A call went up from the rearguard of the company... An ambush? No... Something else. The Purple Sands had begun to stir: a phenomenon with which the Knights were well familiar, but it was different this time... Some other magic was at work here. The sands rose up around them, charged with an eldritch energy foreign to this desert, transporting them to a yet more remote and exotic place.

A group of Knights arrived together upon Ymph through the mythallar beneath the ziggurat, while others experienced time dilation as a result of the Purple Dust's interference with the teleportation, arriving days, weeks, months later, while still having the impression that their transportation from their home was instantaneous. Those that arrived later knew that a hard-bitten Knight Commander known simply as 'Kochari' was riding at the front of the company that suffered this newest of misfortunes, and that he would likely be looking for survivors...

Deception

This flourishing faction is still intact, try it out. You don't necesssarily have to be with us from the very start to join, outsiders may join and work themselves up to knighthood.

Deception

Even though the playerbase of this faction has diminished somewhat, it's still intact with a bunch of us.
