Black Out Mode

Consider not using Black Out Mode if there isn't a very compelling reason to.

Characters who 'come quietly' whilst you emote dragging them from location A to location B could be given the opportunity to enjoy the RP surrounding their defeat.

If a character is belligerent, squirrelly, or there may be imminent threat of 'rescue', these are the best times to use Black Out mode.

Understood. Though I do believe the case I was involved in recently, was very much warranted IC.

Trust when I say I have felt the other side of Black Out Mode before. It can be incredibly frustrating and admittedly it was the first time I used it myself. If the enemy PC (criminal too) seems sneaky, belligerent, and it is too risky to keep them awake, I will consider Black Out Mode as a perfectly justifiable option. Sapping people with a sceptre is a coroner's prerogative!

We also had a fey incursion on our hands in my scenario!

There's also my favourite use which is stealthing a kidnapped PC past his possible allies. Which is both nerve-wracking and hilarious if they come round and you have to sap them again.

I would encourage use of the Unique Power on the body to wake them up as soon as is practical, so they get some RP.

The Old Hack

The BO room is not that much fun. I have more than once encountered players who got extremely angry just because you BO them once, and well, that can be fair enough. If you have arrested them on your home ground and rescue seems extremely unlikely, it should probably not be considered until you've tried the nice way several times and they are still not cooperating. Mind you, the other side of the coin is this: if your character, once beaten, plays along nicely and obeys instructions to put away/hand over weapons, he/she is much less likely to bring down a BO on his/her head.

On the other hand, repeated use of BO on the same character without any roleplay whatsoever is likely to frustrate the involved player. Yes, you lose the initial fight and get BOed, that's part of the game, you are getting kidnapped and it sucks, ah well. But if you then immediately upon coming around get BOed again, still without RP, it starts to get frustrating. Especially if you can see that there's no friendlies around to intervene. I mean, couldn't your captor at least try to make you cooperate, with something like a "Do not make any sudden moves if you wish to live" or similar remark? And after that, well, once you recover again only to instantly be BOed for the third time, in the middle of the enemy headquarters and still without any RP, it begins to get old. Really, really old.

You might still be able to react more gracefully to the above scenario than I did. My own reaction is one I am not very proud of, namely sending a furious Tell to the captor and then in the DM chat saying, "I'll be back sometime I am not getting constantly BOed" and after that logging out. I have to advise against that. Still, the described scenario is not fun and I would advise anyone taking prisoners to remember that their captives are not just sacks of potatoes but that they have actual players on the other end who might not be enjoying the way you treat them very much.

BO doesn't bother me nearly as much as having to re-organize my inventory after it's over. Even on a new character without much gear it can take me 15-20 minutes.

Please, pretty please - send me a tell! I -will- cooperate, be dragged, tell you whats in my inventory, barter over whatever you want, RP being blacked out, etc... Whatever it takes to get to see some of the RP going on, and not having to un-f@#!$ my inventory when it's done.

Aethereal

Persuasive, Organized_Chaos.

I guess I have had my fun with the Black Out Mode and am a PvP noob so I shouldn't be suggesting it would happen often at all.

This is not specific to any one incident!  It's just something to keep in mind!

I'll never, ever use blackout unless a PC tries running away after being clearly captured, and even then I'm hesitant to use it.

morva

Its fun to role-play defeat, and being dragged somewhere captive while your all messed up

What's all the grief with BO? Sure, people should use it sparingly and only when necessary, but saying that you'll never use it? Why ever, I wonder?

Is it because it spills the pack? I'd think it'd be nice if it didn't, agreeably.

The spilled pack and lack of roleplay are frustrating to me as a player and so I wouldn't want to force the same frustration on another player.

Bobbybrown

When you in blackout mode there is nothing you can really do, so yeah it would be nice if you at least did not get your pack spilled, unless you try to drink or buff in blackout mode, if thats even possible.

NecropolisV

I like the BO system its only happened to me once, and yes i agree the pack re-organizing is really harsh specially if you have a ton of stuff on you like i do most of the time. Getting BO'ed is nothing to get ticked about i think its only really bad if they spam use it like on tOH's situation. If you think a player however during pvp if he is obviously going to win or if someone thinks they are going to lose to send a pm tell if they are going to rp accordingly as if getting blacked out or if they are ok with getting BO.
