Pickpocketing buff?

My character's a bit of a thief, so he tends to go around sometimes and lift purses from unsuspecting adventurers in the town. While this is fun and there's a certain joy to actually being caught and having to worm your way out of punishment, the whole process itself isn't very profitable.

A mark can have tons of gold on them but you're only able to lift pocket change at best, and the system necessitates a thirty minute delay between every cut purse. I can totally understand the delay, but I think the whole process would be more rewarding (quite literally) if it came with a slightly higher pay-off. Maybe raise the maximum cap to 100 gold per cut purse, but still keep it at overall 10% so we don't absolutely clean out poorer folks, and for richer merchants and adventurers it'd still be an (irksome) drop in the bucket anyway.

Additionally, being able to lift specific items would be very nice, like rings and jewelry that aren't being worn by the target PC (and no DM loot, obviously.) Let's say there's a higher chance of detection and you can only safely steal items below one pound that aren't potions and such-like, cause obviously those would be incredibly difficult to take in secret, being all sloshy and liquidy and crap. I'm not sure how this would work mechanically... like, maybe a "check inventory" player tool or some such. Would that be possible to script? Would it be too easily exploited?

I've seen a ton of PCs carrying tons of money with very low spot skills. Maybe this would give them a better incentive to invest in that, eh? That's my two cents, would appreciate feedback!

30 minutes per PC would make a lot more sense than 30 minutes outright. Though i'm not sure how that would be scripted. I know I myself was heartbroken to learn I had to wait endlessly after taking gold from a PC in town, after getting a DM, and waiting for a time only to be told "Sorry 30 minutes" when attempting to strike another on an older Pickpocket PC.

Try Cut Purse instead of Pickpocket. Testing something new to see how it compares to the old and I've been pestering people on #efu a lot about it to hear if they've tested it out.

Also, remember that pickpocket/cutpurse is a hostile PvP action and requires a DM in NPC populated areas.

Uh, a small explanation for the rules surrounding the Cut Purse function would be nice. I tried to use it on someone whose Spot skill was lower than 2 and the DC was 20, so I ended up failing, which seems mildly ridiculous. Pickpocketing is comparatively much easier. What determines the difficulty? Or is it static?

Judging from the player tools description, it seems to serve the same function as pickpocket, so...

Edit: I later tested it OOCly with another player. The character's Spot was higher than the first guy I failed with, but with this character I succeeded with a DC of 11 instead of 20. What gives? Additionally, the person I tested this with received contradictory messages - one saying I definitely pickpocketed them, and another that was more vague. This seems buggy. Or I'm not seeing something, lol.

Oh, and I still only got pocket change so I'm not seeing the benefits versus pick pocket.

The size of the gold pouch you're trying to cut has a lot to do with it. Same with the messages. For someone with five gold coins, losing even one is a major setback and very easy to discern. Get up in the thousands and you may not notice the few gold coins slipping away.

You'll always get only pocket change. But it all adds up, as you can target several people and the cooldown between each theft is applicable to only the ones who's been attempted/successfully stolen from.

also if your a rogue be sure to examine mark them!!! it will tell you if they are on the watch or not :P if they are watching then obviously the DC will be much harder!
