Kirby

Kirby Collingsworth is dead. I don't take screenshots, so I thought I'd share some random stories of particularly fun instances.

[SIZE="1"](I hope you don't mind I put this on the screenshot forum! It seems appropriate with all the death threads)[/SIZE]

[hide="The Concept"]The concept of Kirby was simple. During the day he was man, and during the night, he was wolf. As a human he was a good man who was trying everything he can to cure himself, and to demonstrate to the townsfolk that he is a man of virtue so they will forgive and help him along the way. As a wolf he would attack everything in sight, but always leave his prey alive and afraid so they will be stronger for the next fight. It was really cool seeing the two different camps players took as they conflicted between killing the beast and saving the man![/hide]

[hide="Interesting People"]Joseph Oaktower was Kirby's first friend. Kirby had always sought a cure to his lycanthropy, and he heard from the townsfolk that Joseph could help him. Kirby often sought Joseph's counsel after something bad would happen. Joseph was extremely comforting and helpful, and the only person that Kirby trusted in helping him find a cure. Towards the end, Joseph finally assembled his major attempt at curing Kirby, which turned out to go sour. (See Death & Betrayal)

Hallvarg Wintermoss was attacked by Wolf-Kirby in the wilderness and proved to be a vicious fighter during his defense. After seeing his strength, Wolf-Kirby decided to make Hallvarg his first infection victim. Wintermoss embraced his newfound wolfiness and truly unleashed the beast within him. I secretly hoped he could unleash the beast within human Kirby, but death came all too soon for that! (See Capture & Escape)

Vladimir Khavenko, Elizabeth Claxton, and Balthasar III of Ehrenhas were amazing Mustermen who had some very interesting conflicts during Kirby's capture. (See Capture & Escape)[/hide]

[hide="Bandits"]At the time there were a group of bandits frequenting the roads, and Wolf-Kirby was determined to find them. He eventually stumbled on them near the village gate, and so he launched himself to attack them in a three versus one! The battle was close and used up the entire fighting supply on both sides, but Wolf-Kirby was barely victorious. One of the bandits was a loud, rowdy dwarf who insulted the wolf during the entire fight. Wolf-Kirby was looking to make the dwarf his first victim of infection, to have the dwarf suffer as he did. Just as the wolf was about to devestate the tiny tank, the sun arose and Kirby transformed into a man. Afraid that the bandits might have seen his face, he fled and human Kirby went into a paranoid hiding for a time.[/hide]

[hide="The Wizard"]Wolf-Kirby was hunting around at night, and stumbled upon an open door in the wilderness that is not usually open. Curious, he stepped in. Inside was a human and halfling, which made for quick and easy prey. As they cried for mercy, Wolf-Kirby left them to bleed while he explored around. All he found were a series of locked doors. He returned to the two prey bleeding on the ground and took their keys to continue exploring. After unlocking many doors, he finally stumbled upon the wizard!

The wizard was at an altar, next to a bookcase and standing on an evil looking symbol on the ground. He was immediately alerted when Wolf-Kirby opened the door. After a momentary staring contest, the wizard began casting spells, and the wolf pounces on him! The wizard had some trouble casting effectively with a werewolf clawing his face, but he successfully escaped. Allowing the wizard to go, Wolf-Kirby continues to explore. After finding nothing, the wolf begins to leave.

On his way out, the wizard makes a return, marked by a flurry of missiles flying at Wolf-Kirby! After barely surviving the attack, the Wolf heals up and pounces on the puny, magic-spent wizard! He's not so strong without his magic. After chasing the wizard out of his evil lair and into the woods, Kirby finally managed to put him down. A victorious howl was had, and the hunt was good. He left the wizard to bleed. Perhaps he'd be a better challenge for next time.

(...Later, I found out as a player that I took out a supremely powerful wizard. If I had known, I might've been too nervous to fight!)[/hide]

[hide="Capture & Escape"]Wolf-Kirby found a halfling speaking with Hallvarg outside the village gate and decided to make quick work of him. Surprisingly, the halfling had spunk and was able to fight off the wolf and make for a truly close battle of claw and fang versus tiny man and sword! Wolf-Kirby howled loudly during the battle, which attracted the town's attention. Hunters from the town ambushed and paralyzed Wolf-Kirby, and he was put down before he could escape. Hallvarg, who had embraced his new wolfy rage, joined the battle, but had lost. Just as they were about to execute the monsterous wolf, the sun rose up and Kirby became a man. This confused all the hunters, and so they took Kirby and Hallvarg to the Muster prisons.

In prison, Kirby begged for mercy, claiming he was a good man and that Joseph Oaktower was about to cure him in a matter of days!

Meanwhile, Hallvarg Wintermoss was thrashing and raging about in his prison cell. It was obvious to the Muster that he was to be executed. He was carried off from his cell and put to death. Knowing that his death was a result of Kirby's actions was a great burden on Kirby's conscience.

The Muster was not sure of how to handle Kirby, however. Vladimir Khavenko initially empathised with Kirby's dilemma, and was friendly in conversation. He even offered Kirby a drink, and mentioned how he knew of other good men who were put in Kirby's position. It sounded hopeful, and Kirby thought he would have a chance to live long enough to be cured.

After Khavenko's conversation, Balthasar appeared and tried to prove that Kirby was a werewolf or had the capability of controlling his lycanthropy. His discussion was more analytical as he tried to figure out how to treat Kirby. In what I believe was an attempt to prove his lycanthropy, Balthasar became a goblin and pretended to have been captured by Elizabeth Claxton, who decided to put him in Kirby's cell. Goblin-Balthasar was doing his best to provoke Kirby and "eat his babies," while Kirby begged Claxton to move the goblin to the other cell. Despite their attempts, Kirby would not become a wolf since it was still day time.

Eventually, the Prison Warden heard the goblin and decided that the goblin must die. He ran into Kirby's cell and began attacking Goblin-Balthasar. Claxton opened the cell and let Goblin-Balthasar out as he ran for his life. They all left Kirby alone with an open cell door. Deciding to take advantage of this opportunity, he snuck away and up the stairs to the entrance door of the Muster barracks. He was only one door away from freedom! Khavenko entered the Last Keep, and was about to open the door to the Muster barracks when... Balthasar and Claxton showed up and stopped him! Kirby was hidden just inches away from Claxton for several minutes until Balthasar finally found him. Now with Kirby back under control, they began escorting him to his cell. Along the way, they ran into the bloodthirsty Prison Warden.

Khavenko decided that was a good time to inform the Prison Warden that Kirby was to die. Under orders from a Muster Sergeant, Kirby was to be executed. An eager Prison Warden grabbed Kirby by the collar, and dragged him down to his dungeon of death. Khavenko followed, encouraging this. Claxton protested, threatening to put blade to the Prison Warden if she harmed Kirby. After being thrown into the Prison Warden's personal cell, the Warden began assaulting Kirby with intent to kill. Claxton jumped in and defended him. Khavenko joined the fight and fought Claxton. Kirby ran around, healing as best he could, just trying to survive.

Somehow, Claxton was able to fight off the Prison Warden and save Kirby's life. She argued that Kirby was a virtuous man and to simply execute him would be improper. Khavenko left, declaring that he would return to take Kirby's life with back-up.

Kirby begged for Balthasar and Claxton to bring Joseph Oaktower, hoping that Oaktower could convince the Muster that he had a cure for Kirby. Claxton left to fetch Oaktower, leaving Kirby alone with only Balthasar to watch him.

It was then the rusted grate of the prison cell broke, and Kirby jumped down to escape![/hide]

[hide="Death & Betrayal"]As a free man, Kirby sought Oaktower and eventually found him. They agreed to meet in the Forgotten Forest to have the curing ritual. Oaktower left to find holy men and women to participate in the ceremony, and Kirby headed to the forest. Along the way he ran into Ghyrumclaw the Scarred Werewolf, who tried to convince Kirby that Oaktower and friends would kill Kirby if the cure fails, and to join his pack instead. This put the fear of God into him, and when Joseph Oaktower and his troupe arrived, Kirby demanded to know what would happen to him. One of the troupe said that to protect Mistlocke, they had to kill Kirby if their cure fails.

Kirby refused the possibility of death, and betrayed his friendship with Joseph Oaktower. Out of his desire to survive, he became a wolf and attempted to kill Oaktower! There was a big fight of Joseph Oaktower and his troupe versus Kirby and Ghyrumclaw. Yet despite Wolf-Kirby's strength, there were simply too many and he was overwhelmed. As Oaktower and crew continued to fight the remaining werewolf, Ghyrumclaw knocked Kirby unconscious to steal him away from Joseph Oaktower.

Eventually, Kirby would wake up from the fight. He would wake up inside of the jail cell of the Muster. It turned out one of Oaktower's party was able to steal Kirby away from Ghyrumclaw! Mustermen entered his cell, and Wolf-Kirby fought at them until they were finally able to put Kirby Collingsworth to death. Meanwhile, despite the betrayal, Joseph Oaktower was begging for Kirby to be brought back to him for the cure. He was Kirby's only friend until the end.[/hide]

It's been extraordinarily fun, so thank you to everyone for being excellent. I haven't played here in a really, really long time so it's good to see everything is still kicking! You guys are awesome, so thanks again.

A very awesome werewolf, from what I saw (and that was usually with you standing over my subdued form).

That encounter with Kirby was probably one of the better experiences I've had on EfU -- and it was all relatively player-driven, too!

Excellent character, I will sincerely miss our bouts in the wilds, it made scouting about the crossroads and scars with Dougal much more interesting!

Canzah

Wicked fun! A simple yet elegant werewolf concept that I thought you played well. My only regret is that it all ended too soon.

The Crimson Magician

Kirby Collinsworth looked like a ton of fun to roleplay with, sad that I didn't get to do more!

My character Clikit only met Kirby once and now has a wicked cool scar to prove it. Awesome!
