What with the new graveyard and all, I thought here would be a fine place for this suggestion: the usage of a Shovel on a graveyard having a chance to uncover a corpse item or other body part, like Devoured Head, Twitching Corpse, Indistinguishable Corpse, animateable bodies, and the like.

TheBarmaid

With a Search check to find a corpse, and a spellcraft check to get a -magic- corpse

this incidentally would be a good exscuse to impliment things like animatible skulls if you don't have the swagbag for hauling around whole corpses.

Further, it may be cool to make it so on critical fails, an undead is found, maybe like a zombie or skeleton, which would agro on the digger.

EDIT: Spirits of various sorts might also be viable, as graves are being disturbed...the spirit of the deceased wants peace via murdering the person who's bothering the grave, and they've got stronger powers than just smacking you around. Same for the occasional ghoul or tyrantfog zombie.

Adhesive

On the flip side, if perhaps a Jergalite or a Kelemvorite happened across the graverobbers, giving them a chance at perhaps using turn undead to calm the spirits and put them to rest, after roflstomping the graverobbers, of course.

this idea.. is pure awesomeness, would make necromancers even more fun than they already are. However such a thing also needs limits, otherwise a person could just sit around and continuously dig the same grave. Of course i think the longer you dig in a graveyard the higher the DC should go for both the spellcraft and the search.
Of course on reset the DC goes back to normal

Disco

Where did I put my stamp of approval?

Egon the Monkey

I strongly suggest you FOIG about this. There are ways to get bodies.

Talir

It's an interesting suggestion regardless of possible implementation.

The Old Hack

Well, I like it. It gives the Muster another reason to get out there patrolling. I'm sure Mistlocke law will not be particularly approving of grave robbing. >.>

Implementation could be achieved via an added script to the Old Shovel, useable in designated graveyard areas where, upon usage of the secondary script, would try to find a corpse (against DC, of course) along with a possibility of summoning user-hostile undead, whether successful or not. Repeated attempts could even increase the likelihood of an undead attack, leading to a number of them rising and assailing whoever was graverobbing, or even an all-out uprising against the intrusion (possibly a scripted Invasion sequence, like with War Trolls, Goblins, and Kobolds?).

Further, I don't know if it's got one yet, but the graveyard crypt would be ideal for a home and spawn point for, say....a necromancer, Jergalite, Kelemvorite, or follower of Velsharoon. I suppose the little shack outside the graveyard might work, too, but only for the Jergalite or Kelemvorite.

The Beggar

Necromancers are mean people

Talir

What's worse, there's rumours they've begun to carry shovels out to the underwood graveyard. Starting next reset.

THEDiamondJ

Literal thread necromancy, Talir.
