Hey guys, OOC request here. If you are on a quest that is going poorly and you can not get everyone out. Please do not lead spawns to people bleeding out on the ground. If you then run off invisible the spawns remain there gathered around the person bleeding out. If the character recovers, they are then surrounded and immediately die. This can be -very- frustrating. Thank you.

Vlaid

Well, this is probably more an IC issue to be adressed IC with a tactical discussion but...

Usually, if you are bleeding out, you have a few moments after standing up before monsters will re-engage. Use that time to walk away from them a step (so you don't trigger AoO when you drink a potion) then pop an invis potion and heal up/whatever you're going to do.

I understand your point Vlaid but this is not an IC request. As I said its an OOC request for other players, not their characters. As for the time lag, it does not help if there are a great number of spawns around you.

Et Tu

As an addendum, please remember people need a path to escape. Its great if you attempting to kill the NPC chasing them, but dont trap them in-between you and the NPC in the process of doing that if they are getting killed.

Spiffy Has

Sounds like you had a bad day man. Most people try to avoid this, and sometimes need reminding, but we're all friends here and hate seeing each other die. :(

Et Tu

I am not pointing fingers at anyone Spiffy, nor attempting to imply it was done in an effort to kill my character. It was meant as a friendly reminder to keep in mind OOC how the game mechanics and AI work.

Kotenku

Sorry something bad happened. Nobody needs to be reminded though. Shit happens, and sometimes it can't be helped. Sucks! So try not to take it too seriously.

Et Tu

// Deleted in the interest of this not turning into a debate. Just keep in mind the game mechanics if you didnt know or forgot about them. :)

Dr Dragon

Believe it or not on the battlefield shit turns to chaos, and plenty of soldiers completely disregard wounded or fallen men.........I consider this very much IC.

In a fantasy setting like this where the life of the individual holds little value to many countries of the jaded an war wracked continent our setting takes place in this might be commonplace. These are adventurers most of us associate with, not soldiers, and it is a fantasy environment where life is less valuable and death is commonplace, not a real life military task force where the combat zone is controlled and organized and all that is possible is done to rescue wounded.

It does suck for sure when you are going to survive and pull through it but someone in the group decides that you have to die for them to live instead. That's sort of what you get for putting your life in the hands of random strangers though. All that can be said is deal with it ICly. Some characters might try to hold them back for you to recover, others will use you as bait. It's not an ooc decision to just throw you under the bus but rather one relative to the characters yours associates with. Or at least it should be an IC act.

If things start going bad, im gonna do what it takes to survive. That includes running past a potential downed ally. Remember if I make it away I will come back to help you.

Bottom line is that once "shit hits the fan" you cant really expect people to think about what they do, they just react to what is going on.

I think you are missing something.  He is saying that it was not done with the INTENT to kill the character.  So this was not a "Yay for me and screw you moment."  (There have been many of those, some I can say were IC.. others were players just wanting shit for themselves.)

This is about the MECHANICAL way NwN works.  A player is on the ground bleeding out.  You run passed them, drink invis.. the 'monsters' will stand around the fallen guy.  They will not wander away looking for you. Said fallen guy gets lucking and doesn't fugue.  The PC stands.. which if this were an IC thing, I would bet he would lay there and play dead a bit longer... FUGUE.

So.. if you are going to lead a group then Invis.. do it away from the guys on the ground.  Not to hard.. run just a touch further, around a corner, what ever.

Jayde Moon

It can be 'yay for me and screw you' without that being the INTENT.  If I'm running past and need to drink an invis to survive and you are right there bleeding out and will be screwed... I may still drink that invis.  The INTENT is not to screw you... it's to survive.  I'm not going to wait the time it takes or go down another path to spare you from that situation if it means my chances of survival are greatly lessoned.

For the OP, yes, it's nice if people can try to keep these things in mind and try to avoid contributing to these mechanical incongruities in AI behavior, etc, and folks should try to do so.

That said, things get chaotic, especially when you are running away and trying not to die.  People aren't going through a detailed thought tree that includes whether or not the actions required for their PCs survival might endanger yours in these cases.  It's generally, "OHSHITOHSHITOHSHIT, INVIS... OH, DAMNIT, THEY'RE GONNA GET JOE, CRAP!"

As for the OPs 'addendum', I'm going to go ahead and call the IC, and not toss that one onto mechanics.  Adventurers are a bloodthirsty, violent lot.  They get carried away and want to swat at stuff.  Sometimes in their zeal, they block you in.  It's an IC issue.

THEDiamondJ

Actually, it is much worse to be down and someone comes along and heals you with a minor healing, bringing you to 1 hp so the next hit sends you to the fugue.  They mean well, but get you killed just the same.
